I made considerable effort to SORN when purchasing bike, and was refused without any reason, so gave up. Tried online, phone and by post (3 attempts using different methods, I believe any court would find in my favour if they tried to fine). the bike is HPI clear and they sent me a new V5, so certain its not scrapped/stolen or dodgy.
I now want to tax my CBR250RR, she has a fresh MOT (and no advisorys, though thats not to say she is perfect! ). Wanting to ride her home tonight, tryed online to be greeted

Unable to use service
Unfortunately, because of the tax class of the vehicle or recent changes to the vehicle record, you are currently unable to apply for a tax disc or declare SORN using this service.
You will need to apply for the tax disc at a tax-issuing Post Office® using the reminder (Vehicle Licence Application/SORN Declaration) or the Registration Certificate together with the MOT Test Certificate/GVT Test Certificate (if applicable) and fee.
For vehicles registered to a Northern Ireland address you must also take an insurance certificate or cover note.
How do DVLA check insurance? Opens a new window
You can declare SORN by sending form V890 to DVLA Swansea. V890 |
Ive tried online and phone (I suspect they use the same website and are useless). One more attempt before I give up and just ride without
*If* I goto a post office and do it the old fashioned way, to get a piece of paper, it should work? I would really rather not
Do they use computers these days? because 1) I dont have a paper insurance certificate and 2) if they use the same website its all pointless. |

Did mine the other day too after being SORN for a month and a new MOT.
No problems.

Phone taxing attempted. Im now told my bike has a "Renewal Reminder Prohibit" mark against it that can not be removed other than manually at the DVLA office. Told me to post all my documents off, V5 included
Asked to speak with manager, couple mins later he tells me I can do it at post office, and so that will be attempt number 3 and my last attempt, which I will do on my way to work |

Success, post office taxed it, wasnt even a queue.
Seems if it has not been taxed or sorned for a while it gets a RRP to inconvenience the next owner |
