Everything else being equal, how much would you reduce your offer on a bike if it's been recorded as Cat D? In particular, what if it appears that there's no appreciable damage, but the bike is Cat D because of a prior (failed, obviously) theft?

I'm looking at a naked bike that, for its age, mileage, condition, etc., might be in the range of £2500-3000. I'm wondering how the Cat D classification might affect insurance costs and resale value. Should I be thinking about a minor discount in the range of 5% (£100-200), something like 20% off (£500-600), or something else?

Depends, doesn't it? If it's a 2010 Bandit, big discount or look at the many, many examples to be found elsewhere. A classic Norton, it makes not a jot of difference.

What it really comes down to is: how much do you want that bike?
