Hi people

After some advice on my cbf500 while riding the bike it cuts out and then when you go to try and start it will not start up again this start on Wednesday and when it cools off it starts up but today this is not the case I had to use my brake down cover and it add the AA bike specialist confused .
Their on-board computer was suggested a faulty sensor/switch but no suggestion on which on it could be I know for a fact my neutral switch it faulty but been running for over a year without a single problem
Does anyone think the is a thermo cut off to protectthe engine on the ecu or kill switch

Any advice will help a lot want to try sort it out myself as I can't not afford the cost of going to a garage and for them to try and sort i.t

Many thanks

probably you can start by finding wiring diagram first. You also can find Honda service manual where you can find electrical troubleshooting procedures. I found one here its 132MB so you need to download it:

https://www.ulozto.net/xYPANBNX/honda-cb-cbf-500-service-manual-pdf

This is famous service manual and in sections 5 and 9 there you have everything you will ever need to fix your ignition or electrical problems ever.

You are saying that your neutral switch is broken? I am not familiar with CBF500 but usually ignition cut off switch, neutral switch, sidestand switch and clutch switch are part of the same safety circuit - means that if your neutral switch is broken or you are in gear you cannot start the bike unless you pull in the clutch which bypass neutral and side stand switches. You can try start the bike by pull in the clutch than try to start, which will eliminate faulty neutral and side stand switches. Check kill switch voltage and contacts first.

You also can check the obvious - your main 30A fuse. Then start from your battery and follow the voltage presence in the whole ignition circuit and check is there voltage going after in the wires. It may be faulty wire or bad contact. Sometimes plugins have bad contact so just cleaning and plug out and than plug in can solve bad conatct issues. Halfords electrical contact cleaner is your friend here:

You need to follow your CBF500 specific wiring diagram ignition circuit in order to find the problem. Just follow the voltage and you will find where it is lost.

You need multimeter to do all checks whichwill cost about £8 like this one:

or at least car/auto circuit tester which basically is 12v bulb in a screwdriver like this one and will cost about £2:

hi m8
i have excactly the same problem on my honda cbf500
bike starts fine from cold but after a couple of miles if i turn it off it won't start again, also the neutral light goes out. after cooling down ,,about ten minutes it will fire up again! i suspect the neutral switch is faulty and i thought it was behind the front sprocket but after removing the sprocket i could'nt see anything like a nuetral switch, where abouts is it located on the bike?
did you solve this problem as its driving me nuts trying to fix it!!
thanks in advance
andy

Have you tried starting it with the clutch pulled in when this happens?

I'm certain it's behind the sprocket from memory - same place as om the older cb
