Insurance cover for bike hire and accident cover etc. Sort it out here before you go and do not rely on any insurance cover offers provided by bike hire company.

Accident damage excess waiver if you can get it, it does not matter how much it costs, just get it cause you will be wallet raped for any damages.

The hirer will retain your card details and probably your passport (if you let them - I would not let them have my passport under any circumstances).

Enjoy, no point in me mentioning wearing the right gear, is there?

You can get a mesh jacket or body protector, kevlar jeans and mesh gloves for £100.00.

Trainers are better than nothing, flip-flops are very cool though.

I would consider taking my own helmet as hand carry.

How come a lot of bikers think carrying bike gear is a hassle?
If you compare it to snowboarders or even golfers it is not a lot of kit.

Check it over really well before riding.

I hired a DR350 in Gran Canaria a few yearsback. Chain was slack, it had a knobbly on the rear and a road tyre on the front. It had almost NO oil in it.

I took it back to the hotel put more than 2l of oil in to get it on the dipstick. I then proceeded to put 500km on it in 24 hours and brought it back. The guy looked surprised to get it back and mildly horrified about the mileage I'd done. I strongly suspect he intended for me to break down so he could keep the sizeable deposit.

I only noticed it had no tail light bulb after it went dark.

I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles.

This , I checked out 4 bikes for me and my over enthusiastic mates (they wanted to get going immediately after paying up), turns out every bike was defective in some pretty serious way or another.

Enthusiasm to get on the road negated all essential pre-drive repairs being done, 2 break downs and lots of fkn temp bodges and local repairs at our expense ensued, pretty messed up outing overall, not a good result.

Because you are on holiday don't mean that every hirer is going to make sure you have a good time.

Buyer beware, what's new?.

Check it out before you go and don't leave until it is sorted.

Or, you could do what we did last week.

https://www.facebook.com/CanaryMotorcycleTours

Awesome tour of the island. Martin sets the pace in front, (and he isn't afraid to go for it if you want to Very Happy ) would never have found some of those routes on our own.

No huge deposit to pay either. I'm definitely going back.

They said ride mag are doing a feature on them to be in jan / February issue as well.
