I'm after a helmet like the Roof Boxer. I mostly ride in an open face lid, but use a full face for faster roads or when it's likely to rain.

The problem is, they cost an arm and a leg. Does anyone know of a similar type of helmet that costs less, or even what this type of helmet is called? My google-fu is weak.

Don't know of any, but I have an older Roof Boxer and I don't wear it because in comparison to other lids it is simply too heavy. Shame because it looks the dogs... Also, it doesn't have the right stickers for track use.

My advice - try before you buy!

The Boxer is just a flip-up/modular helmet with a fancy design. You can also try the Roof Roadster, an open face with a neoprene 'fighter mask' attached:

https://eshop.ironmonsters.it/images/product/Roof-Roadster-Matt-Black_250_1BCCB.jpg

Not a fan of that though, I had one, the shell size is massive and you look like a bobblehead, and the neoprene mask is shit.

Seconding the Airoh TR1, looks a lot sleeker than the Boxer which IMO is a bit too wide and blobby.

Shark Road Warrior is like an even more angular version of the TR1:

https://www.motolegends.com/helmets/Shark/shark-road-warrior-helmet-gloss-black.html

There's a (Thai I think) company called Avex that makes ripoffs of the Boxer and TR1. They're pretty cheap (Boxer clone works out to about 30 quid in Malaysia) but I have no idea what the quality and sizing will be like, and if they deliver overseas Laughing

Boxer clone:

Here's a link to Malaysian eBay, you can try and ask the seller if he'll post overseas Laughing :

Keep an eye on eBay too, quite a few pop up once in a while (I used to want a Boxer too) but such is the lust many have for this iconic helmet that even battered old shitters get bid up to insane prices Rolling Eyes

Not quite the same, but the Shark Nano has a full length 'long ride' visor and it's half the price of the Roof (doesn't look as good tho)

That Airoh one looks interesting. I'm not after a plain flip-up lid, I've had one of them before and they're a pain in the arse. I usually wear an open face, so I'm after something where the chin bar rotates all the way over the helmet and keeps out of the way.

Schuberth J1 has a removable chin bar.

£230 and (lots) upwards though. Great idea, IMO, I'm amazed that it hasn't been copied except by me in my shed with a bit of aluminium tube and some rivets.

Shark Evoline does exactly the same as the Roof.

Even cost about the same too Laughing

I am surprised something like that isn't available with fixed chin bar. Would make it American football helmet like.

Nice one, but not exactly like a Boxer since the bar doesn't flip upwards out of the way.

I just got the caberg duke. Not pricey and comfy. 5 star sharp too if you go by that. The chin bar lifts above the head. Haven't used it like that though.

I was in J&S today and looked at this on Robby's behalf.

Quite smart looking (if you like that sort of thing) and it was the only flip with a chin bar that rotates right to the back of the helmet, although the visor doesn't go with it, in the same way as the Roof.

It didn't strike me as being worth 300 quid though, at half that it might be interesting.

A couple of places are selling them for £150, only in small size though, so no use to my XXL melon Laughing

If anyone is interested. I saw the Airoh modular helmet on this thread and decided to buy one. The J106 replaces the TR1 and is fully approved as a full and open face helmet in Germany.

Arrived today.

Pics and first impressions here

I'm not 100% sure if the mask part can be removed, have seen one and I think they look pretty smart.

* Just googled it, looks like the mask and goggles can be moved up and removed
