With delivery miles for under £4K, from here. Wow, what a barga...

Oh, wait, also from here. Still, you'll have to look hard to find that kind of deal.

Unless you look here. Or here or perhaps here. Also, yes, here too.

End of season clear out, or end of line? Suzuki have been trying to kill off the SV for years in favour of the SVF / Gladius, but it just won't die in the UK.

If dealers are punting them at £4K, how much are Suzuki wholesaling them for, and why? Thinking

What, a straight swap? I'd hold out for some accessories. Whistle

..... and they continue to market the GSXR600 3 grand higher, which isn't as good a bike IMO?

I can't get my head round that..... I've never been a fan of Suzuki, I've always had a problem with their build quality, but 4k for a SV is a bit of a billy bargain.

If I'd just passed my test, I doubt I'd look much further than the SV, my mate had one, its not bad to be fair .....

I'll rather have a Fireblade that is 9 years old than a brand new SV650 Razz

And I actually can think of many other 10 year old bikes for 3 grand that I would rather have than SV650 Twisted Evil

Shit.. being honest I can get ZX6R J for less than 2 grand and still will be 10x happier than with new SV650 Idea

To be fair it's a lot of bike for not a lot of money.

Ok so the one I briefly owned was an absolute pit of a bike, and many of them are similar. But you only need to look as far as our own Mr Elysium of Nowheresville to see that if owned from new by somebody willing to look after it then the SV is no worse than any other similarly priced bike.

A victim of it's own potential in some ways, it's a reasonably sporty, fairly good looking, very cheap and easy to ride bike, well within the reach of most 17 (or 19 now) year olds fresh out of the test centre. No wonder they have had such a hard life for the most part.

No joke I was asked by a newish rider today whether to change the oil in his bike he just needed to keep adding fresh oil to the old stuff. He had literally no clue at all that you could drain oil out, the word filter was met with a blank face.

With that sort of owner, what chance do these bikes have?

It's £200 (+ OTR!) less than a Chinese WK650i.

You know, I have a strange sense of deja vu. Didn't they do this last year, or the year before? Thinking

Aside, I was chatting with a dealer this Saturday who went off on one with very little prompting about Suzuki screwing owners and dealers big style with their constant price slashing. He pointed out a GSX1250FA that he'd taken in P/X at full book price, just before Suzuki lopped a grand off of it and the local Suzuki dealer chopped another £400 of their sticker price. Reckons he had a bloke who asked why he'd pay more for a used one than a new one. No real answer to that.

This seems to be Suzuki's only answer to upping sales figures, its been going on for the last couple of years... failing bringing out an entirely new model, I doubt they've got any other idea's left..

I'm a bit confused generally about new bike pricing, they seem to have shot up a couple of grand over the past 2 years anyway without any real reason.... are Suzuki not just returning the RRP back to where it should be ?

It's a great news for new riders. £4k is ok for decent bike to learn riding on.

But I think Suzuki had no choice. They've been selling SV650 for 5 grand for a while now. There is quite a competition at this price from this year --> MT-07. I would rather have that.

Wouldn't everyone?

Answer: yes. I had a sit this weekend, it really is a perky little thing, like it wants to go and play.

I couldn't play though, as that was a customer's bike, and there are none to be had in the country until October at the earliest.

Now, I could have gone on to the nearest Suzuki dealer and got an SFV650 for just £4721 / £5089 ABS (before haggling). Did I? No. No, I did not, and I doubt many other punters are either. Even their relatively "modern" SFV already looks sad and bulky.

They desperately need something new and compelling, not just more special editions and fire sales.

[UPDATE] And it doesn't take long to find pre-reg SVF's for £4K either.

You say that, but I only paid £4,000 for my SFV, new, 3 and a half years ago when they were really trying to kill off the SV.

It's something deeper than that, comrade.

I have owned 2 SV650s from new and would buy another any day. They are fast, fun and bulletproof. Spray with WD40 in the wet and they will last forever. Handling is superb. Absence of expensive rider aids is soooo appealing. If you like a sporty riding position these bikes are hard to beat for the price. Sure if you want a more upmarket high miler....but for this price, it's a no brainer. My Daytona is twice the bike but it's twice the price. That's where Suzuki score, keeping a long in the tooth bike going at rock bottom price. The new MT-O7 is a great bike but it's a bit of toy. Long live the SV - motorcycling will have lost one of the greats when it finally passes!

On reading some reviews, I am almost tempted to go and try an SVF650, just to see. I mean... they can't screw me by cutting the price any more surely? Surely? Eh?

Youre selling the BMW because it has no soul, and buying an SFV instead because....

Perhaps the ideal companion for your Carby RE, is an FI RE?

Current Suzuki deal is £1000 off selected bikes up to 30 September.

I'll just hang on until I can get a V-Strom (with all the touring/luggage extras) for the same as that SV650 Wink

I have it on good authority that BMW bikes have a soul. It's a Teutonic German soul with a liking for leather shorts and other kinky Germanic accessories. It also hums Ride of the Valkyries.

Buy one, coat it in grease and store it for fifty years. It will be a good retirement fund.

Truth to tell, I'm currently eyeing up a Moto Guzzi V7. Thinking

I was oh so tempted by one of them, but mrs nm needed a new car so funds limited me to something much smaller.

Strangely I was eyeing up one of those at Squires on Friday night. I liked. A lot.

Also remembering Snowies posts maintenance is a doddle Wink
