Hey, a bit of a question for you, and I am a mechanical noob.

When in the first 2 gears and starting to accelerate, the bike is jerking a little bit, like spluttering? it is a fraction of a second, and doesn't seem to happen in 3rd gear and up.

I honestly have no idea what this is. My initial guess would be chain issue (but why not in higher gears?) or a fuel issue? Like I said though, not good with mechanics at all, so advice would be very useful.

Cheers in advance.

Could be a huge range of things. More detail needed.

When? When the bike is cold? All the time? Wide open throttle? Small throttle openings? Low revs? High revs? Throughout the rev range? Does the choke make a difference? Does adjusting or oiling the chain make a difference?

Help us help you.

Cold mainly, although it has happened when warmed up (usually when I am pulling away from lights). Not all the time.
Small? Dunno, I am on a Honda CBF125 so accelerating away from a standstill, not wheelspinning but moving at a steady pace.
High revs due to me moving from a standstill. No choke, FI bike.
The chain is kept lubed, but some of the links seem a bit stiff and there is rattle from the chain in all gears, seeing a mate to adjust the chain (never done it before).

My ZZR600 does it a little bit on a morning, slipping the clutch slightly longer smooths things out a bit while it warms up.

Once I've been riding a little while / if I've allowed the bike time to sit and warm up before setting off it doesn't do it so much.

If you have the fuel injection model, check that the air filter is clean, and that the spark plugs are clean and correctly gapped. If you have a sooty exhaust outlet, there's probably something wrong with the fuel/air mix, which is controlled by the ECM.

If there's any warranty left, get it checked by a main dealer. There are quite a few sensors that need checking out: Front & Rear Lambda, ECT, IAT, MAP, etc, as well as associated valves and controls.
