Was what I have just been doing as all bulbs in headlight died and the only source of light on tap at 60mph were the indicators, pretty fucking trippy but not very helpful - even more so after pulling off the a30 onto the back lanes (muddy twisty singletrack roads) the indicators failed to point out a freshly mown down badger which crunched as it send me towards the swampy ditch on my left hand side. Gingerly crawled at walking pace the final few hundred meters to my house. Sorry for the uncool story bros but fuck getting caught out without backup lights.

Will carry super bright small led torch from now on as backup in case of light failure Embarassed

Why not stop and use phone to call RAC/AA/a friend?

Let me guess, you are so cheap that, not only do you ride round on a bike that is so marginal that bulbs blow (they don't for a reason, especilly both at the same time) you don't have any backup.

If my headlight bulb blows and it was too dark to see, I'd stop. End of.

Its fun Laughing My first bike would blow bulbs but the first time it happened both filaments went together. Somone from work stopped and let me follow behind slowly with hazards untill we got to street lit roads.

I now keep a 12v cree XML led underseat incase I have any breakdowns, which would do the job nicely if both bulbs popped, unless regulator dies its unlikely on a dual headlight bike.

I run the LED spotlights off a relay for extra visibility, they give a decent amount of light even if the headlight bulb was to blow. Cost about £8 to buy and mount them.

Short 2 mile ride to garage for pint of milk on an A road and country lanes, not one streetlight or phonebox on the way - hardly any traffic, mobile phone at home on charge.

Didn't plan on bulbs going, indicators got me home. No kittens were killed but an already dead badger got a little flatter Laughing

So yeah moral of story is always carry phone and torch at night 'just in case', first time on any of my bikes has this happened.

I have plenty of spares in the shed nobby but I dont keep a selection in my pocket all the time, if i did you wouldn't be writing twatty replies to my crappy thread Crying or Very sad

H4 bulb duel filament?

Otherwise ride home with full beam on, on a modern bike it would be a different bulb to the normal dipped beam is you would have 2 separate H7 bulbs.

I used cheap 9 led torches converted to run at bike voltages
mounted on the forks for 'fog lamps'
well.. more to make to bike more visible/just ferkin about really.
But they did light up the back lane quite well and would have served
well for slowish speed riding in pitch darkness if the headlamps failed.

Having both filaments fail at once sounds more like a wiring or fuse fault than bulb failure

I wouldn't stop - I certainly wouldn't ring the AA over blown bulbs. I'd just carry on my way in the safest possible manner. Not sure why you're attacking him over the decision to not phone for recovery.

Buggered if I'd stop either. I'd rather be felling my way along in the same direction of traffic with some sort of light than sat on a dark road waiting for someone to wipe me out. Wouldn't take much to bypass the flasher either.

It was at 60mph on an nsl road that they went out, only option was slowing to about 30 and using the indicators as lighting, as mentioned I had no mobile on me and pushing it home the remaining mile would have been even more unsafe.

Was kind of hoping this thread would remind people to always carry phone and a spare bulb or torch but it doesn't seem to have gone that way Laughing

Does it keep blowing bulbs? or is it vibration or an electrical issue?
My CCM kept killing bulbs, so i switched to LED all around, job done.

Also, most of my british bikes are running LED, They draw feck all so its good for the pathetic charging systems and there less likley to die due to vibrations, they vibrate alot, but i like it Mr. Green

Something to think about.

First time it has blown any bulbs or gone wrong, they went out after hitting a pothole pretty hard. Popping into shop on way home to get some new ones, sorted.
