Hi please can anyone help, i recently bought a gs carb for my dr it starts first kick , i can get it to tick over ok but as soon as i rev it up it wont settle down to tick over speed. i just put the carb straight on as the engines are the same, is this ok or will i need to change the jets. Also i have a problem with the neutral light, it only comes on when i press the pass button on light switch but if the light switch is on it won't work at all. When i put it in gear the the light goes off as normal but will not come back on untill i have pressesd the pass button again, this is with or without the engine running, Thanks karl,

Carb
Could be binding in the throttle cable?
Is it single cable or push pull?

Take the cable(s) off at the carb end, repeat the test

If it has cured it - its going to be the cable or throttle twistgrip related
(routing of the cable, old frayed cable, split outers causing rusty cable, chaffed cable or as simple as rubber handgrip rubbing on bar end)

Test the carb without throttle cables attached
make sure when you let go of the cable pulley at the carb end it slaps against the end stop with a clunk
If it doesn't - it could be a twisted spindle or cacky dry bushes on the butterfly spindle if they have sat unused for a while, a drop of lube is not going to hurt regardless

if all of this is OK - an air leak could cause the revs to hang - as does running lean - check plug colour for clues

As its a 2nd hand carb no way would I just bolt it up and trust it was setup right and not blocked with spiders, sawdust and swarf etc

Did you check the carb was 100% clean and that the jets and passgeways were clear and that all O rings were present and not cracked/perished?
It may also need the float height setting if its been through the mail system...LOL

Regards
Rob

Thanks for the reply it's not the cable because I replaced it with a universal one so I will take it apart to clean.
