So, mrs is after getting on 2 wheels shortly and is rather keen on getting a ybr,

will be going to take a look at some shortly, anything in particular to look out for with them?

Also what kind of price would be fair for say, a 2006 with 10k miles on it if cosmetically sound (and allegedly mechanically sound)

Got my YBR about 2 months ago now and love it. Its a 2010 with 9k miles.

It was a little tatty when i went to view it. Duct tape holding part of the clocks together and some scuffs all down one side and on exhaust. Rev counter didnt work, he believed it was the speedo cable.

Owner was honest saying it had been dropped and was asking for £850. Did some haggling and got it for £700 which i was pleased with.

Wasn't bothered that it was a little rough round the edges as im a learner too i thought i would have dropped it anyway (still haven't touch wood!) Took it for an MOT and it failed on leaking fork seal, wheel alignment slightly out and headlight pointing too high. (All believed to be from the drop). Got the Rev counter sorted too - it was the drive gear in the front wheel. Garage fit this FOC while doing the fork work.

£80 later and it was fixed and MOT'd so all in all its cost me about £800 including giving it a service and a new plug.

Engine sounds fine, gear selection can sometimes be a little notchy but read thats pretty common.

Rear brake squeals alot at low speeds.

All i can think of at the minute! Very good bike though i really enjoy riding it as a learner.

The '57 plate and onwards YBRs have fuel injection, it might be worth going with that for simplicity. Any 57 plate onwards with sub-10k miles would be £1000 - £1300 ish? It does largely depend on condition.

Check gumtree regularly. When I was 125 shopping, the decent deals would appear and then be sold within hours. Be ready to pounce with cash in hand.

My 2006 ybr is in perfect Nick apart from one slightscuff on the pegs. I paied 1000 for mservice history. Possibly paid à tad much for it but it was very hard to find à 125 in my area in decent condition tbh

YBR's in good condition do hold their value quite well but i think for what you described 6-700ish at this time of year would be pretty fair providing it's been looked after.

For context i got mine for £1,290 right at the beginning of summer when the prices tend to go up. It's a 2010, garaged it's whole life with 11k miles on the clock and a FSH in really good condition.

I'm looking to pass my test within the next year or so and will sell it for the same price i paid for it and will be surprised if i don't get almost all my money back.

thanks for the info folks, she's booking in her cbt next week, will be going to view a ybr fairly nearby soon and if she buys it i'll probably ride it home for her as my insurance covers me for riding other bikes (obviously after she's insured it) Laughing

Well' she's acquired a 2011 CBF instead, I rode it home for her as her CBT isn't until Tuesday (my insurance covers me to do so) was rather odd riding a 125 for first time in 2 years, so so light![/img]

That'll be because the frame is made of rust.

Should have definitely got the YBR Shocked

Wish you had asked about the CBF as the YBR is way better quality. CBF had the potential to be the ultimate cheap commuter, but it's terrible.

I hope this is a good one. Thumbs Up Karma

Grrr deleted wrong post.
Any way me and girlfriend bought two new YBR's in 2011 and they rusted quite badly within 6 months regardless of how much we washed them.
Pipe and footpeg brackets were the worst places but shockers and swingarm were a chore to keep on top of too.
Good bikes but bad finish imo

the cbf doesn't look to bad, there were no ybr's within reasonable distance at all for viewing, the only one had sold by the time she phoned the seller.

the cbf doesn't look too rusty, a couple of spots on non critical parts but looks and rides decent, she'll end up dropping it repeatedly anyway Laughing

Rain cover on the way and I'm giving it a coating of acf50 for her tomorrow Thumbs Up
