Is it dangerous to ride when you're not well? I ask this because I'd assume concentration levels would plummet as a side effect. I haven't taken any medication so that wouldn't mess with me.

I've got a really shitty cold and am gonna ring work later and tell them I can't come in. I sorta manned through it yesterday but today its really bad. Anyway, tomorrow I go and pick up my Ninja and I don't wanna have to put it off just because I'm sick, way too impatient and excited.

I dunno what it is, either tonsillitis or a really bad cold, makes me feel weak/stuffy/little bit dizzy not so much. If I could remedy it with something that'll make me feel like jesus for a few hours that'd help for tomorrow. There's no point going doctors he'll give me something that doesn't work and makes me feel more shit.

Anyway, give me sympathy and remedies please Laughing

It's tricky to see through a snotty visor if you sneeze.

I guess it might depend on how far you need to travel, if it's just a couple of miles you should be fine.

It depends, in 2005 I remember it being tax season. I was shivering (but feeling roasting) unwell.

Back then I was naive and thought loyalty counted. I still went in, I did ride slower though and I set off earlier. It was 13 miles each way middle of winter back when I used to wear about 6 layers of clothing.

Had a bit of a rubbish cold fortnight ago. Didn't consider myself bad enough to pull a sickie, so rode into work. Going fine, until 3 miles down road some numpty decided to filter past a queue of traffic at the same time I was about to. My reactions were shite, took me by surprise and grabbed a big handful of front brake, locked front, and smack straight down on road.

Managed to avoid going into back of other twat, but smashed fairing (£180 to replace), scuffed mirror, bar end, indicator, top box, ripped hole in leather jacket, scuffed , huge bruise on hip and arm ached for a few days.

Had I been feeling well, I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have reacted such and possibly predicted the stupid move. So, if you can pull a sickie, it's probably best.

It's not legislated so go for broke.

As with everything that impairs you, tiredness, illness etc. you should be able to judge yourself whether you are OK to ride/drive.

It's only Booze you can't because the government has decided it is quantifiable and impose strict punishments. While I think I am fine to make my own decisions about how I can drive under the influence I know there are MANY that can't so I am kind of glad. I've driven whilst ill and felt far more dangerous than I would after 4 pints!

The drink drive limit is abit bollocks in some ways, I'm 6'5" and a moderate drinker I can 'handle' my beer, my missus mum is about 5'3 and about 8 stone, she rarely drinks I watched her get noticeably merry on a tumbler of pear cider I'd estimate less than half a pint. Laughing

Bottom line is I don't drive over the limit because the government has made that choice for me, I actually left my car and my missus (who is a ~3 minute drive away) last night because I forgot I drove and had 3 can of beer I felt absolutely fine but it is not worth the risk.

I suppose it also depends what type of ill you are..Needing an emergency poo can certainly be distracting! Laughing

You also have to consider how much worse you might feel by home time. I know being in work always make me feel worse when ill.

Do not take paracetamol on top of Lemsip or you'll be feeling a lot more poorly.

You can mix them but, you could end up deaded. Lemsip contains the maximum dose of paracetamol, so taking extra is really not advised.

Apologies for the daily fail link.

Oh deer.

OP, if you have Man Flu, you're already a dead man typing. Dibs on the Ninja. From where am I picking it up?

[UPDATE] Oopshit, I forgot, I took a zinc supplement and a vitamin C + zinc one this morning. I regret nothing.

Believe me. It would be worse if you had diarrhoea.

Also, remember not to failbook pictures of your new bike when you're off sick. Wink

paracetamol is shit, does nothing. Diphenhydramine is what you want, found in many cough/cold medicines - find one without other active ingredients preferably. It has some pleasant effects, nice dreams were had Laughing

Be aware it is supposed to be a sedative but I found it had opposite effect.

If you're ill, you're ill mate.

Ive got the ease of a bike and a car so dont even bother with the bike if im feeling off.

Even my mood depends on whether i ride.

As long as your boss doesnt see you popping wheelies on your new bike later this afternoon/tomorrow youll be alright.

I always drive better after a few glasses of 12 year old malt
and a puff of opium......
Laughing
I dimly recall the highway code? saying don't drive if feeling unwell
or impared by medicine maybe they changed that.

Its down to the Op of course, If you're feeling utterly shite best stay home.
If a few drops of medicine buck you up, you may be OK.
I've gone out when under the weather and turned back realising
it was a bad idea.

I've had the the guts play up when riding/driving too, most distressing.
wont go into detail, know what a sensitive lot you all are Sad

I'd never ride when feeling ill, but then my bike is a toy and I've got a car to use to get me from A to B.

I ride for the enjoyment of riding, not as a mode of useful transport, so feeling ill I'm not gonna enjoy it, concentration will be affected and just not a wise move.

Although I think in part I may be conditioned by the fact that if I have so much as sniffly cold I cannot work. (Not me needing to MTFU, dem de rules.)

I often find that if I've got some sort of complaint, be it anything from a cold to ruptured discs in the past couple of years, the only time I'm not bothered by it is on the bike. I reckon it's because the concentration levels required don't leave the brain much time to worry about pain or inconvenience.
