After passing my DAS I am torn between a bandit and an XJ6F....

OK, a bit more topically:

What budget?
What uses?
Have you ridden either?
What did you use for your training and tests?

Why those two bikes in particular? The Bandit is a naked or half faired IL4, the ER6F is a plastic twin. Why not, for example, an ER6N? Or if you want faired, why aren't you considering the GSX650F, or a CBR600F?

I bought an XJ6n after passing my test. Im perfectly happy with it. I test rode a load of other bikes in the same catagory but ended up coming back to the XJ which was my first choice anyway. Youl probably get a second hand bandit cheaper but I think XJ6, s stay in a better condition longer. Ultimately the choice is yours and if a middle weight bike is what you want your not going to wrong with either a bandit or an XJ.

I fancy a Bandit myself.
I've looked into them and to me they look great.
People give them a hard time, saying things like wobby suspension,slow,rust easy etc.
I know someone with w reg and its kept in the garden under a cover and its no more rusty than you'd expect a bike that age to be.
Never rode one but looking at youtube vids and reading around they will do 4 second 0-60(did read 3.5 but prob a bit optimistic?) top end is plenty and to me they look a proper bike.
How slow can a 600c bike be? I have a z750 which some people slate and for me it pulls faster than I really need to be going.Top end is way overkill for what I need.
I just love the look of Bandits when they've had a few bits added.
There are obviously better bikes around but are people being a bit Clarkson about them?(saying a perfectly good car is crap cos its not a rich mans plaything)

They are OK. Nothing special just OK.

I don't know much about the air cooled, but the water cooled ones are heavy bikes, actually top heavy bikes for their size.

They go OK for a heavy 600. I used to like taking the wifes out once in a while just to really screw the tits off it.

The finish on it wasn't that great.

Engine was nice enough and handled ok.
