Hi everyone,

I ordered a new helmet from sportsbikeshop last week and it arrived the next day but had 2 cracks in it, so it was sent back for a replacement.

Now today said replacement has arrived but upon opening the box heavily labelled 'this way up' I find the helmet in the agv box upside down! Meaning that all the padding/protection in the top of the box protecting the helmet is ineffective. The top of the helmet only being protected from the hard floor/van floor by two thin bits of cardboard.

Now because they go to such effort to ensure the box is up the right way should I be concerned that the helmet wasn't and has possibly took a few knocks because of this? I don't want to find out the helmet has already absorbed an impact when its too late.

So basically, should I be worried its taken an impact at all?

Or shall I just forget it and enjoy my new helmet?

It only really damages a helmets limited protective properties if the polystyrene liner is crushed or compressed.

Since it (hopefully) wasn't shipped with something heavy inside the helmet, a small impact to the outside through a cardboard box is unlikely to have impaired its functionality to any appreciable degree.

You can also be sure it was delivered to the shop the same way it was delivered to you.

Well that's not helped my paranoia Smile

I guess I'm just worrying because of the problems I had with the first helmet they sent me. It just seemed that every area was well protected except the bottom, where the base of the helmet should sit and that's where the top of my helmet was sitting lol.

I work across from where a YODEL delivery used to be. You'd think they'd get paid for trying to throw parcels the longest into a van and dropping them was just a bonus. Sure, they don't come lovingly packed from the factory somewhere in the Chinese slumps... But I'd desist at the idea of buying one through those means when the first one didn't make it in one piece.

Not necessarily. Could have been tried on by someone or checked prior to shipping.

Although that'd me much more likely if it was coming from somewhere that has a physical store with physical customers rather than mail/internet order.

Do you feel safe? Send it back or man up like everyone else. Get over it. It is a helmet, it covers your head. Don't moan about a bargain. Question why is it a bargain.
The fact that you are asking BCF suggests you know already what you are gonna do.
FWIW I buy helmets the same way, now. I just try not to spank myself into anything hard..
Go buy a £30 lid from a shop. Feel safer? Shouldn't make one iota of jottage difference. They are all itchy, one way or t'other. Ride safe.

Not really. A helmet size box is quite throwable. A box containing 8-12 helmet boxes with helmets in them appears to be more of a challenge.


No. For bigger packages, You stick the forklift through the shrinkwrap to lift them then stack another two palettes on top.
