Hi,

basically I'm 25 years old and I've already passed my CBT and Theory test. In order to get the direct access license to ride any bike I want, I have to pass the practical tests (module 1 and 2) on a 600cc bike or bigger. Anyone know how I'm meant to get a 600cc bike to the test centre, when I can only legally ride a 125cc bike with L plates?

Thanks in advance.

There are loads of threads on here explaining how - RogerBorg has given some fairly in depth advice.

But in summary, get a fully licensed mate to ride it, or trailer it to the test centre, providing you can get it insured. many people have done this so it's doable.

Or, book through training school is the easier but more expensive way, i.e. use their bike. You may have to book the entire course through them, or just a day, or by the hour depending on the school.

Most people do full DAS courses with the help of a training school. You have lessons on the road much like the last bit of the CBT and once suitably trained for your test* you hire the use of the same 600cc bike to ride to the test centre with the instructor following you.

*are you?

Only other way to do it would be to buy a 600, insure it provisionally and get a van / trailer / mate to ride it to the test centre for you.

Either:

1. Pay a training school for the instructors time, bike hire, insurance cover etc, they'll usually have test slots booked up in advance.

2. Buy your own bike/borrow a friends bike, insure it on a provisional licence, get it to the test centre for the mod 1 in the back of a van/ridden by someone else, and again for mod 2.

The latter is cheaper in the long term, but a lot more hassle than booking a 3/4/5 day DAS course with an instructor and letting them organise everything, hence the reason most people pay the £500-£1000 and do a course.
