Not bikes, but I've got into RC stuff a bit recently.

Given the choice, I'd go for brushless electric because it's a load less hassle - less moving parts including no longer needing brakes, no fuel tank and so on and mostly 'it just works'.
Need a lot less maitenance, less mess and so on. You do need to spend a bit on batteries initially, but won't be too much for bikes.

Also tend to have a good lot more 'go', especially low down, without the need for gearing.

1/5th Scale Petrol RC cars are alot less hassle then those 1/10th nitro things.. basically use petrol strimmer engines. So simple to fix and smell lovely! Can run them over rougher terrain too!
