Outrunning it was not much of an option, break your leg running down the hill into complete darkness. Some scary shit as you say when it goes dark and your breathing in that amount of dust....

If I was on a volcano and that happened, my reaction would not be "ooh, I must take out my phone and record this."

Saw some photos of the aftermath and the site does look pretty cool when all the ash has settled. Same about the climbers that didn't make it though.
