My tyres started to go a blue colour around the edges. I've never seen this before and I'm just curious as to why it's changing colour and do I need to change my tyre or anything?

This is happening on both sides of the tyre on both wheels.

I think the cause of this issue is referred to as 'riding like a vagina'.

Trade your machine in for an sv650 immediately.

Nothing to worry about, just where the edge of the tyre has most load and got warm. Keep a check on your tyre pressures, too low causes overheating but that looks fine to me.

Its due to the oils coming through from heat cycles.

The down side to this is the more it happens the harder the tyre gets.

I'm a complete noob to tyre stuff... What exactaly is a heat cycle?

My tyres getting warm then cooling down is all I can gather off Google?and surely that happens every time I ride? So whys it gone blue now?

That's exactly it.

Its not an issue for road tyres tbh,I you think how often you go out and then go home etc it's going through a heat cycle.

They don't usually go blue like a track day tyre would for example but iirc this is normal over time on road tyres,it all depends on how hard you ride and how much heat you can get in to the tyre.

Why does the fact that my tyres goes through heat cycles make me a vagina..?

Because they are like chicken strips, if you ride leaned right over then it should wear the blue bit away.

Quite ironically if you ride hard and get onto the edges and get your tyres hot it makes it go blue on the edge.

Which means you have to go out and ride hard onto the edges to wear the blue away.

This is ALL nullified by the fact you can wear them off easily on a round about bash. (well the right hand ones anyway) at 20mph when you counter lean.

Hell on a nearby corner on a 30 road you can counter lean and get the hero blobs down at 37mph. So it is NOT an indicator of great riding skills.

chicken strips are zero indication of a riders ability and having them doesn't make anyone a vag. chicken strips vary greatly from bike to bike and are affected by a number of things. are you saying the quickest way around every bend is fully cranked over with knee down?

Whilst I can agree with the first part of your statement I challenge you to find the 'quickest way around every bend' without involving 'fully cranked over with knee down'!!!

Don't worry too much about that.

I'll photo the Daytona's rear tyre, its the opposite, so much blue, no black. It has become solid as you would expect after 5 years and was pretty sketchy on track.

ok ill requalify my statement to 'the quickest way around every bend on a public road' is fully cranked over knee down? the quickest line between any series of bends is the straightest line the need to be more and more cranked over going around a bend comes from carrying more and more entry speed into a corner and trying to maintain that speed. at a recent training day at cadwell park by the end of the day we were averaging entry speeds of 100-110mph to most corners, chatting to the instructors afterwards on average a motogp rider will enter the same bends at 130-140mph. on our day no one including the instructors went knee down at those speeds it wasn't required, motogp riders do so they can carry that extra 40mph and they have the tyres to allow it.

now back to public roads my average entry speeds are probably 70-90 corner dependant ive found a limited number of corners that require the bike to be knee down cranked there's plenty you can do it on but invariably it's not quicker the further you lean a bike the more it slows down that's physics and there's only so much speed you can carry on a bumpy changing surface with road tyres within the 3 metre lane we have to counter that slowing so no on most public roads I don't think knwe down is the quickest way around them

Considering the massive chicken strips, the tyre may be under inflated causing excess heat and leaching of oils - worth checking.

It's a front tyre.

It's also a BT021 so im quite surprised you can get it over even that far!

Laughing

I wouldnt even worry about it. Youve got the tyre hot at some point. If anything it will be slightly under inflated causing more heat.

Lean angles and corner speed all depends on one main thing and that's body position.

If you're lowering the centre of gravity by moving your weight to the inside of the corner then you'll be able to take corners at the same speeds as you did before whilst sitting bolt upright, except this time you'll have less lean angle.

I don't rate them 021's,I use to go through 1 front to 1 rear at a time and I felt that wasn't normal, the front would wear like a 50p Shocked

As said by evoboy, I also don't rate the 021, think I said that to you at BBQ.

Something remarkably weird about them;

You did mention it at the BBQ about how my 021's will wear weirdly and that 023's are better.

I think I'll be getting pilot road 2 or 3's next after speaking to Chickenstrip and Aff on the Wales trip. They both spoke highly of the pilot roads.
