Why would the police waste time and resources trying to solve a proper crime when they can set up a van and nick a dozen people for the terrible crime of going over the speed limit.

Scamera van = easy money
investigating a real crime = making an effort = yer fat chance of that!

One stolen bike in the city = making an effort to investigate = yer right
Turning up at a bike meet and checking number plates = easy.

Do you really think the piggies or the Government are going to take a blind bit of notice of you ?
Good luck with your campaign, I honestly hope you do well and can come back here and tell us something posative Thumbs Up

Why just motorcycles as opposed to all vehicles?

If your bike has been nicked, no-one saw it and there's no CCTV, how would you investigate?

Police have limited resources, they have to concentrate on crimes they can solve, and give highest priority to the serious stuff.
Wish it wasn't so, but that's the reality.

If something is nicked, the van registration plate was noted by a witness and there is CCTV of the thief do you think they would bother to put out a marker to stop the van when it is seen?

All the best

Usually yes, plus the when the CCTV is recovered the images of the suspects will be circulated in case an officer recognises them. Unfortunately, the van will be on fake plates and unless the suspects are known to someone there's little to go on.

They put markers on stolen vehicles and according to someone who isn't me you can report a vehicle stolen and the owner will have lots of fun the next time they pass a traffic car. Whistle Laughing

Trouble is to the person with the stolen stuff it is serious stuff to them.
The police belittling that doesn't do them any favours.
Particularly as said above they seem to make time for the easy low hanging fruit like small number plates.

I wish. Images were shown around but bod not known. Van followed up but apparently sold. But several weeks later they were still umming and ahhing about putting up a marker for it to be pulled up when seen, despite knowing it was still being driven around locally.

All the best

SPAM for all epetitions. No exceptions, and I'm bored with explaining why.

Interesting conundrum, now that you have voiced your reasoning behind your decision...

Yep.

Don't occupy the cops' time by riding around with comedy number plates.

I've had personal experience twice now of the police stopping persons in posession of my stolen motorcycle and both times sending them on their way with no action taken (not even taking their names in one instance). They did at least take the bike off them.

So never mind investigating. They take no action even when the perpetrator drops in their lap.

An e petition will make no difference. It's not a matter for parliament. They have given the police the powers to deal with the problem. The issue is that they aren't using them, be this a matter of policy or indifference. Further legislation will not change this.

Broad policy is set by the Home Office civil servants. This then may or may not be acted upon by the chief constable of a particular police force depending on how he feels or the wind direction. The local police comissioner is supposed to deal with this kind of issue too but they are too busy feathering their own nests and building their political careers to give a damn.

The police in this country are a lost cause in my oppinion.

Probably. It's OK though, I see my latest stalker is continuing his campaign of petty karma sniping, so that's me told. Laughing

Stinkwheel pretty much covered it, although the basic problem is that ePetitions are all useless, by design. An email to your local Plod Commissioner, Chief Constable or rage-rag would be a better use of your time.
