Hey guys,
Ive recently been bought a Drift HD by my better half for peace of mind.
It has an external mic option but I dont particularly want to pay £20 just for a mic. Yes... I can be cheap Laughing

I was wondering if anyone has used alternative mics for any drift cameras?

Thumbs Up

TBH. Why do you need a mike unless you are going to become a blogger....

Any 3.5mm lapel mic will do - I've used this one with a Drift HD Ghost (had to shave down the plug to fit, took 2 secs). Couldn't say what the quality is like since I don't do any talking, just wanted to cut down on wind noise.

The drift one is good quality and a nice length for going in your helmet - I resented it too, but just bite the bullet. You'll forget about the £15 at some point, but if you buy shit you'll be constantly reminded of it, lol.

Just out of interest why can't people just ride Motorbikes anymore?

Why do they have to spout a load of shit and post it online maybe I'm just a miserable old twat but it just seems Stupid.

Go out for a ride record it have fun post it up but nobody wants to hear hours of mindless bullshit over the sound of the bike, and the whole YouTube channel stickers thing is Ghey as Fuck.

I tried a couple of different ones.

Wasn't really a fair test as one is mounted in the bike tail and the other the helmet. I've since tried the drift one mounted in the tail of the bike and the quality is a little nicer then the computer mic. The drift mic is a tenner more expensive though.
Would like something like this https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/zoom-h2n-handy-voice-recorder-n31kr

Just be careful you get the right size plug, is the Drift HD a 3.5mm or 2.5mm?
The earlier ones were smaller than the Ghost which takes 3.5mm

It's not much for a good microphone and you might use it for other things sooner or later.

Do you mean edit the audio removing the wind noise and keeping the audio you want? Is that possible? the internal mic is rubbish and doesn't even pick much engine sound up when on the move just wind noise.

I would have though it would be a lot easier to just use a cheap auxiliary mic shielded from the wind in the first place.

I would like to know how you could just pick up the exhaust noise without the wind noise, is that possible?

Easy*, put mic just behind exhaust outlet. Otherwise inside vehicle near exhaust outlet may work.

A dead cat or a foam windshield may help.

A pair of matching mics pointing towards and away from the sound source in correct anti phase may eliminate noise, but usually a mic array is used along with intelligent processing.

* Well miking a guitar amp and not picking up the bass next to it or miking a snare with minimal intrusion from cymbals is easy.
