That looks easy, why was I not told about it? Sad

I need to go there next year with Ariel and stinkwheel as I want to see how I compare to their chilli eating powers!

Jesus Christ, they looked like they were dying at the end. I can't handle even the mildest spices, it would probably kill me one of them alone.

Pansy Razz

Scotch bonnets aren't really that bad when you get used to them, I bought a bag of them last week for a drinking game, I ate 1 and had a couple of tears and a fair bit of sweat.... 1 friend took a bite and threw the rest away the other one ate the whole thing, threw up and thought he was having a heart attack.

I am impressed at these guys though, especially the just taking a sip of milk part

Good effort by your brother inlaw. He bears a canny resemblance to syndrome from the incredibles.

I guess all the jokes about Rachel Holland liking hot stuff in her mouth have been done by now? Wink

Too cheap. Folded arms

If I'd been watching spoiler-free, I'd have expected her to go all the way. It looked like she had it right up to the end. What an Amazon, I am officially in Wub

Taking misogyny to the next level.

He was in trouble at the chocolate Habolkia.

You can see the one and only reason he didn't cave was because there was a girl still in the running.

In fairness, I really don't think I could have gone that far. If I get too big a hit of capsicum all at once, I start hicoughing (which, having just swallowed a load of chilli, is not a good idea.

My Aji chombos have turned out very nice this year though. I may even make sauce with them.

What is the point of hotter and hotter chillis?

Obviously a chilli eating contest is a bit bit of fun, but what's the point of hotter and hotter chillis in food?

AIUI the more hot chillies you eat, the more desensitized you become to the burn, therefore surely the only reason for hotter and hotter chillies is to satisfy the, fubar'd, taste buds of chilli fiends?

Is there any flavour, (other than the burn), to these "molten" chillies?
Furthemore, what flavour, (other than the burn), does any chilli have, and can you extract that flavour, without the burn?

I'm quite partial to some chilli in food but other than the heat, I can't distinguish any particular flavour.

Some do seem to just be pure heat.

Others are pretty tasty. Some of them have sweet tasting flesh, others a hint of smokiness.

The Aji Chombos I've grown this year are sweet with a kind of fresh, sappy green vegetable taste to them. Almost like grass. And lots of heat.

A chilli without the burn is effectively a sweet pepper.

Yes, there was a bit of that, but it was his 3th attempt and he was desperate for the win.

Huh, it seems like this was Rachel's first go. Shocked

Mind you, it might have helped that she didn't know what was coming...
