Did you finally start to trust yourself on your first 'big bike'

For me, I passed my test in March. Was constantly worried that my first bike as it was a cheapy would break down or something that would go wrong.

But then on Sunday just gone, I did the 'helmsley TT' and then on to Whitby... Not sure what happened but I just relaxed and had fun. managed a few overtakes, did a bit of filtering and generally just enjoyed myself.

Not sure my 750cc teapot is ever going to feel slow though !!!

Most of the posts I have read seem to be from people who pass their test and then proceed to have no fear whatsoever.

Oh don't worry, it will happen, probably sooner than you think.

I had a restricted Bandit so the only fear I had was getting thrashed by the local hooded ped gang.

And you never hear much after that. Strange one.

Plenty of time for acrobatics. Learning good bike control, training your reactions to deal with stuff and road craft is more critical (literally) than being a hero.

At first I was a little wobbly, but when you get a few miles under your belt it just clicks. When I pop onto the Hornet I'm not as confident on the road as I am on the blackbird. But I have done a load more miles on the Blackbird in comparison.

The less gap you leave between rides the more confident and relaxed you'll get. Worked for me anyway.

I have a 600 teapot and I too thought it would never feel slow but fook me was I wrong lol. It feels quite slow now I'm used to it.

I sold my first "big" bike cos I was scared of the repair bill if I dropped it. It was a Harley Sportster.

Bought a 51 plate 750 teapot. That was 8 years ago and I am still riding it. I don't ride fast by any means but know that the bike has the power if I need it.

Before I got used to riding it an acquaintance said "have you found the power band yet?"

Nope. Next ride I found a not quiet road (!) and went round the roundabout and back up the hill. Lipped the hill at 105mph and the front wheel lifted. I haven't been that fast since. For me it's not about the speed (hell, I bought a Harley as my first big bike so speed is definitely not an option!) but the freedom. Smile

I only got my license 3 weeks ago so still very early days but I definitely get very nervous when I'm getting ready to go for a ride. I know (hope!) this will lessen the more I get out but at the moment it's still very much there - it does depend what kind of road I'm on though - roundabouts seem to be my nervy points at the moment yet I felt absolutely fine getting 90 on a dual carriageway. I'm still too nervous too go out on my own (although I know I just need to bit the bullet and do it) - my worry is dropping the bike as I doubt very much I'd be able to pick it back up Shocked

I'm not nervous about the bike, nor about being on it, but I do get nervous in traffic, Im very cautious when filtering and i still dont have any faith in where the limit of grip is, nor taking bends smoothly. Feels good when it works, but I cant do it consistantly yet.

I've probably done about 1000 miles over 10 months with 5+ months off over winter... It'll come.

Passed my test in February. I still feel a little nervous when I'm getting my stuff on ready for a ride. In fact I sometimes feel like I need a nerve shit before I go out Embarassed the nerves subside as soon as I start the bike up though Thumbs Up

At first I was afraid, I was petrified. I kept thinking I could never live without one by my side. But then, I spent so many nights thinking how you it would be wrong, and I grew strong, and I learned how to get along...
