Front tyre blew out at about 50mph, on a steep downhill corner.
Bike pretty much is cosmetic damage. I cushioned the blow for most of it. Not entirely sure how it played out, think it rolled. Bar end (with mirror) came down on my face with the visor open though, tried to spoon my eye out of it's socket.
Could've gone worse. Pic shows the good effort from the mirror, few other bruises & abit sore, but I'll be back at work, on the bike, come Monday. So all in all quite boring. Sorry <--- That's not a wink, thats my current face!
Edit: picture of my bust up eye didn't really add much, quite tame compared to some of the crash wounds on here... ____________________ Currently riding; 1991 Yamaha XJ900F

Funnily enough I posted a similar thread a few years back with nearly the same subject.
It happens to all of us.
Personally I don't care about bike damage, I care only about myself.
Hope you're okay.

Glad you are OK, but if you don't have a pic of the tyre, at least name and shame the make and model of tyre! ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

Ok have been a bit busy with unrelated stuff today.
But to clarify, I think what I meant was the tyre blew up, rather than blew out, I don't know enough to say what happened. There was air in the tyre as I entered the corner, and none when I so gracefully came out.
There was a loud bang, and I lost the front end, probably down to my own reaction which I think was to completely lock my arms up, easily done at the time. Shit happens, I'm still whole, and bikes can be repaired.
There are no pictures of the tyre, as I was on my way home from holiday, already running late, and wanted to get home before the rain (and pain) kicked in. It was knackered, I got it replaced, end of.
I don't THINK I ran anything over, certainly couldn't see anything before/during/after, but obviously I'm not ruling it out.
Tyres pressure had been checked earlier that day, admittedly only with a petrol station pump, but they're not THAT inaccurate surely?
Aftermath was a 2-3 inch clean split, going diagonally from the edge of the rim towards the outer edge of the tyre, and the tube in complete tatters.
Tyre was a 3.00 x 18 Goldenboy, which is not a brand I've ever heard of, but I cheaped out at mot time, and if that's the reason then fair enough, lesson learned. If not, I'm not going to start badmouthing companies, because I can't say what happened & don't have proof even if I could.
That's all the information I have, if anyone can give their opinion on the cause, then great, because simply put, it hurt, and I like to avoid things that hurt.
Also, if anybody's interested, fully packed LOMO drybags make pretty good crash protectors! ____________________ Currently riding; 1991 Yamaha XJ900F |

Had something similar happen in the van a few years back, all happy and jolly, came off a roundabout and suddenly BANGY BANG BANG, with the rear end all over the shop.
Pulled up to find a gaping hole in the sidewall and a distinct lack of inflation.
looks like as I left the roundabout, I must have clipped a cat's eye and with the tyre under cornering load, and flexed over slightly, this was enough to cut and boom.
not saying that is what happened, but if you were cornering close to the center of the road, it is a possibility.
