Would I get closer to my asking price if I sell next year? Don't really want it sitting in the garage for 6 months though.
Also is it worth selling to a dealer or would they only offer silly money?

No harm in putting it up for sale on free sites for the winter.

And yes, dealers will bend you over from behind - Depends how quick you want to get rid of it I suppose.

Thumbs Up

Don't sell it next season. Winter isn't the best time to sell.

It all depends if there is someone out there who wants your bike!

Sounds obvious but you have 2 choices. Put it up for the price you want and wait for that person or price it so someone just looking for any bike is interested.

I had my explorer on sale for nearly a month. Had all those 'I'll give you XXX and I'm doing you a favour mate' calls but in the end sold it for what I wanted.

Obviously it helps if you aren't desperate to sell.

I'm not so convinced the season makes a lot of difference if you are selling a quality bike.

If someone wants a bike they'll pay the same summer or winter.
I passed my test in November so I was gagging for a bike then.
If you really want rid sell for a fair price and people will pay it.

Depending on what bike it is and how new it is, it is probably worth more now in the Autumn of 2014 than it will be in the Spring time of 2015.

I had no serious interest in my GS with it advertised on eBay and Gumtree for a months at a whisker above the trade in price.

I expect the market is folk looking for cheap winter hacks, or bargain hunters who will bag anything that looks like it's being given away. Nobody is going to pay top whack for a bike that's going to sit in THEIR garage for 6 months.

That said, it costs nothing to keep reposting on Gumtree and you might find someone who's as keen to buy as you are to sell. Just be prepared for a lot of silly "offers".

If you're chopping in for a new (ish) bike it may be worth waiting.

At the end of March when the new 2015 plates come out dealers will literally take your hand off to shift 2014 stock. Some even selling at a loss.

You can barter not only the new bike price down, but your trade in value up.

I'm waiting til then to trade in my 2013 Hornet.
