Am I correct by saying that my front tyre is from 2004 and rear from 2007?

Front DOT EB F8 F438 4504
Rear DOT EC UW F439 0207

?

Seems the front is the one that came with the bike from factory (Pirelli Diablo Corsa - Made in Germany Shocked I thought they make all tyres in Asia now). I think I trusted 10 year old tyre too much by riding a bit fast Embarassed I need to change asap.

The bike has done 7.5k miles.

Yes, and the 2 numbers preceding the year are the week of that year.

No need for that mJZ. I ride older tyres and am alive. If the rubber is soft and flexible enough, then there's no reason to change them.
How many BCF'ers actually buy a fresh set of tyres only because of the DOT expired? Confused

If the rubber is hard/dry, not flexible at all and crumbling, then toss it away. Thumbs Up

I've read somewhere that the tyre can look ok from outside but structural integrity can be weakened and make riding on them dangerous.

I think not long ago somebody posted something about his front tyre blowing up.

Now when I know how old those tyres are I just cannot trust them.

Some places recommend replacing tyres after they're 5 years old, 10 is definitely well above most recommendations! Even if they look okay, they won't perform nearly as well as newer ones. Some car mag did a test with older tyres, and the stopping distances were much greater. On a bike, it's not just your stopping distance that will be affected.

a little off topic as its car related but ive just changed all the tyres on my car (2001 Corolla heap).

The tyres on there must have been at least 8 years old even though the car has only 17k on the clock (i bought it off my great aunt).

The MOT in 2013 said tyres perishing but not a fail and in july this year i got no acknowledgement at all on the MOT.

I wish i had looked at the date stamps but ive noticed that the rubber had hardened and were shiny and wheel spun everywhere.
Even though they were goodyears the cheap avons i replaced them with were at least three times better.

I think for a few hundred quid you will sleep a bit better getting them done.

Not so, it just gives one digit of years not two.
