Well i've joined the club. While having a spin on my bike on some of my regular back roads, i completely misjudged a sharp right hander. Sad

I wasn't going too fast, only about 30mph and i began to brake when i realised i was not only in the wrong line for the turn, but i was also going too fast. So i continued to brake but i still went down, thankfully on an area of thick grass.

So it was "sky ground sky ground sky ground" for me. No damage to me apart from a very bad shoulder. Which was thought to be first, dislocated, then after x-rays, broken in two placed then it turned out to be nothing at all, which is great news for me Smile

As for the bike, thats in a bit of a state on the right hand side. A little scratched up, indicator snapped off and generally just a little tatty now. I'll be getting that soon enough.

It was a good thing i was on some busy back roads. A farmer took the bike and took it to his lock up, he wouldn't let me ride home which was a good thing, i could barely pick the bike up let alone ride it about 2 mile. Another couple took me to hospital to get checked up (The guy was a biker himself and he's just getting over a bad accident he had 3 months ago)

So yeah, i'm in a bit of pain now and bike less for about a week. My dad will collect that tomorrow. I'll post some pics when i get it back.

Do i deserve the curse award? it'll make my day that little bit happier Wink

oh I'm sorry to hear about that Keith - at least neither you or the bike were very badly damaged, and that there were some friendly people about at the time! Smile

Thanks for the comments Smile

I'm annoyed with myself that i've done such a daft thing. Never mind though, it happens to everyone at some point of their biking lifetime. I was lucky enough that it wasn't road i went down on, otherwise i'd be torn to bits (was only wearing jeans and a thin jacket) Shocked

I plan to get the bike in tip top condition again, get test done, and sell her before it happens again. Either get a naked bike or another enduro. I cant be doing with high cosmetic repair costs every time i fall off Confused

Nope, sold the Honda so I could fund protective gear, shame I didn't get it in time.

Well i've got the bike back just now and i'm really annoyed with myself now.

The fairing is least of my concern. The front wheel appears to be slightly buckled and the engine is making a nasty rattle which weren't there before. About 75% of the damage appears to be cosmetic but i wont know until the dealership have had a good look at her.

On the bright side, its being picked up on either Thursday or Friday and they are going to repair all the mechanical side (I can live with damaged fairing, just need a fully working and safe bike)

Hi

Ouch. A front wheel will probably not be that cheap. Suspect around £200, plus the cost of wheel bearings, fitting a tyre, labour, etc.

At official costs it sounds like you might well have done enough damage to write the bike off.

To be honest I would say to start looking at Ebay for the parts.

All the best

Keith

When I cracked the front wheel on my rs125 I was looking at about £60 second hand for one.

As keith says brand new they are NOT cheap so ring around breakers.

As for the fairing, your unlucky as that paint scheme is really quite rare. I had one in the same colours and I spent a year keeping an eye on ebay for a mint right hand panel... Nothing turned up until about a week after I sold it!

Thumbs Up

Sad I know, its going to be very costly, but I cant write it off after only 2 months of use Shocked
I will be keeping an eye on ebay though. I'm not too bothered about riding with scratched fairing, more bothered about getting it mechanically perfect and safe again. I have £400 from the sale of my Honda to go towards it, then my dad will pay the rest.

After repairs of the bike, i need to get leathers and a new helmet, so that'll be at least another £300!

I'm going to book my theory and practical tomorrow, try get it done before the winter so i can get her sold about october/november and get something more practical, which wont cost a fortune every time its dropped.

might be worth looking for a shagged bike for the wheel and fairings rather than new parts...www.freeads.co.uk or similar.

Thumbs Up long as ure ok, human bodyparts cost more than bike parts Laughing

Hi

I didn't mean for you to consider it a write off, just that if you took it to a dealer that is what they will say it is.

The way they would view it would be:-
Mirror = £20
Top fairing = £200
Side fairing = £200
Front wheel = £200
Mudguard = £100
Wheel bearings = £20
Indicator = £20
Handlebar end = £10
Brake lever = £20
etc

Anything that is even just scratched will go down as needing replacing on an insurance quote.

Remember that a dealer will charge you £30+ an hour for labour.

Keep an eye on Ebay, or ring a load of breakers for a front wheel. Sorting that out should not be difficult.

Just had a quick look and found this:-

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=36796&item=7913340306&rd=1

Local pickup only, but could still be worth while (or maybe someone on here is local to that and could pick them up and post them to you).

All the best

Keith

Well I had her out a few minutes ago to turn her over and she's not looking too bad as first thought. Its making a strange rattle from what seems to be under the seat but otherwise, I think its just the right hand fairing which is looking a little run down.
https://img65.exs.cx/img65/5759/PICT0019.jpg

Thanks for the advice though, Keith. I'll be checking ebay definitely for new fairing and if necessary, a new wheel Thumbs Up (I'll see what the dealership say about her first, otherwise i might end up spending more than needed.)
