2 sometime between the 1st and 2nd junction I'd move over to 1.

With no road markings, I'd be ok in either lane for the entry - but of course, be very aware of other traffic, as you should in any such situation.

lane one, I'd then proceed to take the wrong exit, and get lost, as happens every time I ride to Wales Embarassed

I think you should take 1. It's not so much a roundabout, more a round road with turn offs IMO. Whatever lane I was in I'd be watching everyone!

EDIT looking at it more I can say why I would chose lane 1 again.
The "turning right" is more akin to going straight ahead, to stay on the A road. When at a Roundabout, the general rule I've found is LH for left and straight on, RH for turning right.

Looking at the road sign there's only actually one signposted exit.
The others are local (unmarked).

So in reality it doesn't actually matter.
It would depend what other traffic was around.

Exit is after the 12 o'clock position so it is technically a right, 3rd exit territory. So as said above out of force of habit 2nd lane and move over to 1 after 12 o'clock on roundabout.

...unless staying in 2 would actually give me a straighter exit.

Oh and yes, if there was no other traffic about, if I was looking to be good on fuel I would consider the 'racing line' (outside to apex to outside - meaning maximum momentum maintained with minimum cornering).
Or if on a bike looking to have fun, maybe do a lap with knee down Smile.

I wonder when the last time BCF ever had a roundabout bash? looks like a fairly decent sized one to do it on.

I guess then there's no "right" answer then.
Only asking as i pass this everyday and no-one else can agree as some take 1, some 2. Becomes a pain in rush hour.
I though take 1.

I was going around in circles getting my knee down last night - albeit at an indoor kart track Smile.

The surface on the roundabout being discussed didn't look amazing - I had a look to see if there was any lane markings not shown in the thread.

Past 12 o'clock = lane 2. It's the best way of letting other road users guess your intentions.

Lane 1 - left or straight on
Lane 2 - straight on (if there are 2 lanes on the exit) or right.

There HAS to be a right answer. Send it to the local authority. They should say whether both or just one lane can be used.

I would use lane 2 with a right indicator, because Highway Code. But I would be ready for, nay expect, people from lane 1 to turn right with no indication.

Well, as it's the same road (A4093) either lane is fine. I assume it's two lanes off the round about, which then merge into one?

Really bad roundabout.
You could choose either.

Left for 1st or 2nd exit
Right for 2nd or 3rd exit.

Given that there is only 1 main road off the roundabout. Then if someone is in right lane coming upto the exit. I would be ready for them coming across, if I was in the left lane.

In reality they should not have split to road coming on as they have.

But how many cars is rush hour....

Personally I would go for left lane and have some fun on the way round.

Try to make sure you NEVER go around a roundabout next to someone else - applies to cars and bikes the same; with a bike, just go around faster, in whichever lane you like Wink

Most definitely applies to anything big/long - seen enough cases where the bike/car driver is surprised as the truck/large bus/etc they're just overtaking mid-roundabout starts to squeeze them out.

Oh and if you're on a bike and there's lots of cars the answer would be "filtering between the two lanes" Smile.

Lane 2 is correct. The local marking before the main road exit at the right end makes it the straight ahead.

The order is the sign not necessarily the road layout and what you think in some cases.

We have two around here on test areas with similar aspects. Highway code, examiners, instructors et al all use right lanes for right turns like this.

If you went round on the outside, someone else inside and they crossed over as normal for the exit and you were there, insurance would not go your way.
