Hi all i have a shimono falcon mountain bike.
My back tyre has a puncture so i went and bought a new innertube and i cannot remove the wheel.

There is no quick release and i haven't got a clue,
i have undone one bolt in the middle of the wheel but i'm not even sure thats right so basically in idiot terms could you please explain step by step how to remove a rear wheel that does not have quick release.

Sorry if im in the wrong place.

Seriously raging with this!! How can it be so hard! and i'm covered in grease!!

Anyway any help would be appreciated.

Thankyou

You might do better with https://www.cyclechat.net they're a friendly bunch on a forum specific to bicycles, we're motorbikes.

The nut you've found on the axel has another nut at the other side, a spanner on each, holding one still and unfastening with the other until the wheel can be removed should sort you out.

It's an in-joke, a piss-take, a ruse, a quip, a lark, a jest, a jape, a caper, an epigram of such clowning tomfoolery as should never been uttered.

What about www.cyclechatforums.com ? It seems that the post currently at the top on there is actually on the same subject!

Wink

For the OP - probably need 15mm spanners or somewhere around that size - one for each side - to undo the rear axle.
You can actually mend a puncture without taking the wheel off, but it's a bit more hassle.

Unclip the cable on rear brake that holds the pads against the rims, flip the bike upside down so it's standing on the handlebars and the saddle, loosen the nuts on each end of the rear axle, the wheel should then lift out with just a bit of guidance for the cassette (the thing with gears on that's on the RHS of the back wheel) coming past the derailleur (the gear changing thing) and then away from the chain.
