Yeah think I read Black House at some point too - seem to recall it being not all bad. Did feel more Straub-ish iirc.

Currently ploughing through crazy cat lady Andre Norton on the Gutenberg SF bookshelf. It's such a relief to read a female voice after all the "Storm Saxon of the Space Patrol" patriarchal guff. So much more enlightened and intersectional and...

Found another great read.

The Nix (Nathan Hill) is a 600 page work of class. I guess it's about a relatively minor "political" incident and the unfolding story of how the characters got there. It all takes place from the mid-60's America onwards.

Hard to describe, but a great read.

I am reading “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” by Philip K Dick.
I loved the film version (it’s number two in my all time top ten) but the book is quite different, good but different.

For those that don’t know, the film was Blade Runner featuring Rutger Huer.

Currently about 70% through Game of Thrones, its not bad, not great just ok. I haven't watched the TV series so I don't know how it matches up with them.

I'm tempted to start in on these, but might wait until the price comes down on Kindle a bit, lol. Fancy something that keeps me going for a while. I quite enjoyed what I've seen of the series so far (up to about part 6, I think). But you always get more out of a book - assuming you have a decent imagination!

The author says it makes sense for men to pay for a subset of a free to read blog?

Now, that's ironic.

Got about half way through the Aleister Crowley one, but I will come back to it.

Whizzed through "Mafia Boss Sam Giancana: The Rise and Fall...", by Susan McNicoll. Haven't read a great deal about the Chicago Mob, mostly the N.Y. crews so far.

Finished the Timothy Leary biography.
Now reading Aldous Huxley's "The Doors of Perception".

And been on a bit of a spree (it's ok, the bank's paying for it Razz ).
Lined up:

"Up and Down With The Rolling Stones", by Tony Sanchez. A controversial account (as any good book about the Stones should be), I first read this, oh, must have been twenty years ago.

"Tripping With Jim Morrison & Other Friends", by Michael Lawrence. Cos you can't get "No One Here Gets Out Alive" on Kindle Mad , and the next best thing was a bit too pricey.

"The Age of Great Dreams: America in the 1960s", by David Farber. Sounds like an interesting overview of an interesting time.

"What's Next?: Even Scientists Can't Predict The Future; Or Can They?", by Jim Al Khalili, my current favourite popular scientist.

"A New History of Western Philosophy", by Anthony Kenny. Ok, a bit deep perhaps, but I've wanted to tackle this subject for many years, but just never really knew where to start, so I guess this'll be as good a place as any. Take it in small chunks chickenstrip, ok? Laughing This one promises to cover from Aristotle to Nietzsche and beyond, so I suppose it'll just outline each one's ideas, but that should be enough for now.

Well, I got a LOT of time on my hands Rolling Eyes

I'm currently reading Lone Rider by Elspeth Beard, a book about a young woman who rode her BMW R60/6 around the world. It's an entertaining read so far though a bit heavy in places, I could do without all the emotion and woman stuff Laughing

Just finished "The Infinite Future" - a bit inception-esque sci-fi that delves into stories about stories that bottom out out on a cliched 'space opera'.

Reading The Road at the moment, watched the film a few years back so thought I'd give it a try.

Just read Prince and King of thorns (part 1&2 of 3) both are easy reads 7/10.

Just ordered Farnhams freehold and A man called Ove, used from amazon,

I have a Kindel but I can't buy ebook for £7 (Includes VAT)when I can get a real book for £3 (used)

1984 (8/10)- Tried the audible version of 1984 as a tester for my first audiobook. It is a little different and I think the retention will be different as the distraction effect is higher, it is too easy to drift yet overall, and this version the narrator really brought O'brien to life, was good.

The road to Wigan pier - Fuck you Orwell "$%&£%$&%$& stop depressing me! (good but unfinished).

Children of time (8/10)- Really enjoying, about 3/4s through. I wouldn't want to spoil it too much but this is very solidly written scifi to me, especially the time concept as incorporated. I cannot offer much without spoiling it.

Read it a month ago, but have been referring to it regularly since.

Coupled with meditation, the most influential book I've read (to be fair, only read 5 books a year). Using it every day. Thanks to BCF'er who recommended it!

Also, dipping into Meditations - Marcus Aurelius. Interesting how valid / relevant his thoughts / observations are nearly 2k years on.

I struggled to warm to her writing; it's certainly in her own words.
But in the end loved the book / story.
