Waiting for it to arrive, but the next one is going to be The Stranger in the Woods by Michael Finkel :-

I'm reading 'And on that bombshell' By Richard Porter (Sniff Petrol) about the Clarkson Hammond May era of Top Gear. Funny, a little disjointed but a compelling and amusing read.

Good, but so many people coming from nowhere and trying to assert their positions, and so many getting whacked, it's hard to keep up with who everyone is - must be a dozen new names coming and going in every chapter Confused

I wonder if the author got whacked? Might explain why he/she isn't credited Laughing

Just started this for the 3rd time, IMO it's 2nd best EU Trilogy(after Bane).

Joruus C'Baoth and Luuke... I'd forgotten about that book, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Captain Pellaeon... wow it's all flooding back.

Have you read the Hand Of Thrawn books?

Just finished Devil's Advocate by Jonathan Maberry. It's an X-Files Prequel thingy, 15 year old Dana Scully. Entertaining enough. Haven't read the Mulder one, I'm a Maberry fan rather than an X-files one, which is why I read that.

Currently reading Starship Troopers by Robert A Heinlein.
My OH realised it was written in the fifties, and was concerned the writing might appear dated. Could have been written yesterday so far (only 3 chapters in).
Was it written in black and white? pff Smile

I've just finished Freddie Spencer's autobiography 'Feel'.

Not just a top rider (most talented ever IMO) but an intelligent, articulate & thoughtful man with a unique & spiritual (not religious) way of looking at the world. It has its racing but it's far cry from the 'I went to that race, I signed for that team, that was a good season' type book. I really, really recommend it you're into sports autobiographies or similar.

It was ok, its the first lovecraft I have read so didn't know what to expect, I found parts of it long winded, i'd agree that it started well, but it felt like it was building up to something but never really went anywhere.

It feels like there should be a sequel.

Finished "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas", excellent.

So am reading his one on Hell's Angels circa 1966 and so on. Unimpressed with either the Angels or the writing. Story? What story?

Ho hum, what next?

Looking for something light, amusing perhaps, preferably non-fiction. I'm on holiday, not studying for a degree in literature! Bill Bryson kind of thing (but I've read all his).

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f2/Pirate_Latitudes.jpg

I'm about 90% through this so far and I love it. A lot.
I've always been a fan of pirate-related history and this is a really traditional Caribbean adventure.
By the same guy who wrote Jurassic Park (which I haven't read, but plan to next), it has a great cast of characters, is well written and is, to the best of my knowledge, very accurate for the time period in which it's written (late 1600s).

I read this a few years ago. A very easy read. I loved Jurassic Park and have read it a few times now.
Prey was an interesting read too.

I finished Pirate Latitudes last night. Great book, but could have done with another few chapters. I think it was found after Crichton had died though, so it may have been unfinished in some way.
Going to start Jurassic Park tonight.
