I was looking at a couple of these 125s, and wondering what engine they have. Rieju, another Spanish make, used Yamaha engines, the same in fact as the YZF-R125 and various others.

This Terra looks quite nice. What exactly is the engine, though? Out there on the 'net, some say "same as Yamaha in their YZR/WR & Aprilia RS4, and some say it's made by Piaggio.

Any ideas?

The ones I've seen are a Piaggio motor, the same as is used in the Aprilia RS4 125, Derbi GPR 125 and Derbi Mulhacen / Mulhacen Cafe 125's. I had the latter a couple of years back.

There was another Derbi enduro/trailie/dual sport looking thing that used what is essentially a YBR mtor with Derbi casings, but I was told they were very rare in this country, but significantly more popular on the continent. Couldn't tell you the name or the age of this particular bike though, it was a while ago I was told.

Cross City 125. My other half had one, and it was dog slow. Nice looking though, and did the job as a first bike.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Any general comments on the reliability and workability of the Piaggio motor? I s'pose if they're in the RS4 125 (etc) reviews might show, but if you've had one... Smile

It's not bad, The kids like them and keep the prices up, but I'd have a bike based on the motor if it appeared at the right price. Usual 125 caveats apply - wiring has usually been fucked, pod filters and shitty exhausts abound. You'll need an adjustable/hinged pin spanner for the oil filer - it looks like you can undo it with the centre nut, but that's decoration, it's a plastic cover.
