Not quite; the XR50 is about as small a 'pit bike' as you'll get; a stock one is pretty tiny:

Looks like it's an XR100 motard to me, which also explains the top speed.

On the subject, there was some little kid on an actual XR50 at the swindon pitbike supermoto thing last night that was doing pretty well despite being on knobblies on a smooth track!

Embarassed, seems you're right and, unless it was a last minute edit, I didn't read your post fully either Smile.

I suspect either the speedo still reads in kph or it actually is the 100.

Still - get a pitbike supermoto, for a lot more 'go', less weight and better suspension.

It looks like another one of those 2/3 size trail bikes that's not quite an adult machine or a pit/monkey bike IMO.

The Kawasaki KM100 is very similar in that sense.

I'd go for a proper pit bike if I was that way inclined as there's tons of parts out there for the Honda and Honda clones, and plenty of tuning gear too!

Or if you want the ultimate off the peg road legal pit bike then look no further than a KSR80, I would quite like to have one of these one day, even if it was the pink/purple version!

My mate bought a Stomp T4 last night for £500 and the thing looks wicked, fits nicely in the middle of my TTR and a pit bike. Should be great fun when he's finished replacing bolts and stuff.

I like little bikes. Embarassed

Checked and it's a similar seat height to my supermoto pit bike.
<shrugs>
Still don't see the point.

As said by others, I think I would rather a proper pit bike. About a third of the price of that XR50 will get you a pretty reasonable one it seems, plus more performance and the possibility of entering pit bike races (as I understand it they must have a chinese engine).

I know they wouldn't be fast, but I've always liked the idea of getting a pretty well specced pit bike chassis wise, and throwing out the Chinese Honda clone engine as powerful as they are in big bore versions, and putting in a PW80/V90/FR80 step through engine. I think having a loud spannie and a big open carb would make it ultra cool and hopefully as quick at least as a std C90 engine?

I've wondered about making a decent 2 stroke in the same format as a 'bolt in', but a PW and so on wouldn't be my choice - a 140 pit bike engine is sluggish enough as it is!

I must have low expectations, or not be wanting to do 70mph+ on 10" wheels etc.

I thought one of the more fancy expensive 140cc clone engines is around double the performance of a C90 engine (7.5bhp). So 14bhp should be a bit silly in a pit bike I would have thought?

As for the PW/2stroke based motors, well I'd think even a terrible backstreet have a go tuner/bodger would struggle to get less than 8-9bhp from a modded 80cc stroker?

You could I suppose look at designing a water cooled powervalved top end for the PW80 style engines, but having a 4speed box would probably be a massive handicap on a 2stroke?

Anyway nothing with small wheels and a 2stroke engine is ever going to get near Binge's creation, so it wouldn't be worth trying IMO!

Mine are 12", but yes... 14hp is reasonable. Not so sure 7.5hp for a c90, though? Certainly not a modern small-valve one.

On hard-stuff I've only ridden mine indoors so far, but even then, while it's fine for it being a 'slow' bike that you want to have to push in the corners, get on the power and so on - it doesn't feel particularly spritely.

While we're on the subject, there were a couple of CR85 supermotos on 12s playing on Monday. I always thought that would be the ultimate low-hp thrasher - can get up to 25hp I believe and they're a chunk lighter than a pit bike while being better spec at the same time.

I think I've seen talk of GP engine (ie Honda RS125) in a pit bike, but personally I'd probably prefer it in the original chassis - which weighs about the same, but should be good for a chunk higher speeds.

Talking to the owner of one, while revvy, the power delivery is still pretty smooth, like 125 motocross bikes - I think the 200EXC may end being the ultimate SM for me (well, maybe a 250sx, but I do own the former and some SM wheels, just unfortunate I don't have the space to have it here right now Sad ).

I also have a soft spot for pit bikes, the cheapness and ease of slower dirt/tarmac fun being the key factors, + crash friendly/plyable nature. Although last year, I spent over £1.5k "improving Razz " my newly purchased stomp road SM pit bike, with a 180cc kit, mags and other tat (see sig).
But this was foolish. Fun and portable as it is, estimating 20hp from its strong little 4T motor, which recently past the 2k mile mark, the bike still feels filmsey and lacking. And for that money I should have just bought another "real" bike.
One made of steel rather than cheese.

Then maybe afterwards, had a go at spending more time and less money on crafting a proper bespoke performance 2T pit project. I agree with Stevo on the awesomeness that Binge has created with his epic rotax engined build. Thumbs Up Way to do it like a boss, i'd have likely failed an abandoned by now.

Could probably get two well specced road legal pit bikes for the cost of that Smile.

Saying that, despite checking in the morning, I had to miss the last race today because the only bit holding my engine on was the foot peg bracket! (I did actually dig out my thread lock, but it'd dried out.)
