Isn't it a bit late to be asking for opinions seeing as you have already bought it? Confused

Very very good.

I like Shark because I don't have an ARAI head or a SHOEI head Nolan is close but gives me headaches. Cabergs are too thin on the cheeks.

Anyway.

I tested my S800 to destruction in a licence losing go straight to prison speed crash a few years ago

I buddy tested his S900 in a low speed slide. We are both OK.

I have an old RSR2 helmet which is the lightest helmet I've ever had, it has followed me on every tour I've done including the big one to Japan. The white bits are going yellow though as the UV light is mucking it up.

Made in France too.

My Shark has one major fault, in heavy rain, water gets in through the top air vent!

I have a Shark S500 Air lid in blue, it's pretty comfortable. It did have a tinted strip that was amazing for keeping the lid from steaming but eventually condensation creeped in and ruined it. Bit noisy as lids go, but enough room that it doesn't feel cramped and I can get a pair of sunglasses on when the weather is sunny enough to need it (driving style ones which are polarised and the lenses wrap to the peripherals of your vision). They were only about £119 new, AFAIK they're not made any more. The first visor I had got scratched to buggery so I bought the last one in stock from my preferred dealership, that one's starting to scratch as well.

That's good. Mine was £189 came with a pinlock visor and an antifog pinlock strip, it has a built in sun visor the slides down when you pull a lever on the side of the helmet which is pretty nifty, and it weighs 1.5kg or there abouts. I'm fairly chuffed with it Smile

To solve the noise and cold problem, just wear balaclava. Even cheap helmets then feel like the top notch stuff. Thumbs Up

I would suggest that regardless of what you are wearing on your head, you try your hardest not to hit it.

I have the previous version of the S900 without pinlock or pump-up gadget.
After two years of everyday use, it is still in fairly good condition.

The anti-fog visor doesn't live up to the manufacturers claims.
The current S900C has a pinlock as standard, so it should be
much better. The internal tinted visor is just about useless
because it fogs up instantly during the winter when you are
likely to need it most.

The fit is quite large. A size XL is a bit loose on me. The same
size in a Shoei is as tight as a duck's arse. I can't manage to
squeeze my head into an XL HJC.

The helmet is a bit noisy. I wear earplugs and a neck tube
on longer journeys.

The visor mechanism is very good. Easy to open and close on the move.
The 'push button' release makes the Shark visor easier to remove
and refit than any other brand I have used.

The chin strap ratchet is not always reliable. The little pull tag
on the end of the ratchet can easily fold back and prevent the
strap from locking properly.

Ventilation is very good. It gives a nice breeze through the
helmet on warm, humid days. It can also freeze your forehead
on a cold winter day.

Good luck with it. Keep the receipt. They have a 5 year warranty.

Happy with my S700C other than doing shoulder checks on the motorway allows water to come in past the visor and occasionally can cause the visor to flip open.

I bought a Shark Speed R.

https://i832.photobucket.com/albums/zz250/grrthefearless/Brisky%20shots/IMAG0089_zpsbl2umqkt.jpg

Good features, Pinlock with insert, optically neutral visor, drop down sun
visor, double D, removable pieces of cheek wadding to allow for glasses.
My main gripe with it is that it's a sod to unclip the visor from the locked
position with gloved hands. I tend to ride with it not clipped over the lug
just because it's a pain to lift sometimes if it's clicked down.
I've got the knack now but that's in very thin summer gloves.
Also you need to tighten the visor screws periodically as there is not a
ratchet mechanism on the visor, it's a smooth action. If you don't it can
drop with a sharp nod of the head or lift with a lifesaver check.
Otherwise a good lid and a nice fit for my melon.
I also wear my wifes HJC RPHA ST lid from time to time and to be honest
next time I'll buy one of those as it's more user friendly and quieter too.

You know the phenomenon where a lot of full-face helmet-wearing women look totally stunning and gorgeous until upon their lids' removal reveals them to be leaving a little more than something to be desired?

My, er, quasi Other Half (if only she would find it in herself to despise me enough to actually leave me! . . . only joking, Love!! --- NOT!) and regular pillion needed to replace her knackered old Shoei, making a beeline in the shop for a Vision-R in matt black.

Well!
The helmet itself was good looking enough; sexy, even. But when she put it on my feeling towards it and her, erm, expanded considerably; clearly they were made for each other. Even more so when she flipped-down the internal sun visor --- phwooaaarhhh, thinks I! -- "Yes. YES! [hubba hubba] Buy it! Buy it! --- Fuckit, I'll buy it for you"!

She kept it on while I eagerly inserted the debit card and spunked a load of dosh on her. She wore it on the way back to her place. She carried on wearing it when we arrived . . .

Needless to say, I gave her some serious what-for for the rest of the day and on through the night -- cometh the hour cometh the man -- sufficient that she couldn't walk properly for the coming week, I can assure you.
(and there was I, once a weak man)

So. Here's to Shark Helmets!

Got the exact same helmet, love it. Internal visor is pointless though it fogs up as someone mentioned but overall very good.

I find them to be very good. I have a s900 with the sun visor on the inside and that's a lovely touch Smile no problems in the 2-3 years of ownership, only slight annoyance is in very very heavy rain the clear visor let a lil water in at the top of the seal.

I have the Shark 900c and it's the best lid I've ever had, except for one fault. When you do a lifesaver at speed (60+ mph) the visor flips up, which is troublesome to say the least.

Apparently, it's an issue that Shark are aware of and I've read (on here I think) that if you get your Shark dealer to send send it back to the factory, they'll fit a new mechanism free of charge, as they bloody well should.

I bought mine online and can't remember where from and I don't know of any local dealers around these parts and together with the hassle involved, I personally haven't bothered.

But yeah, apart from that, it is a lid I'm happy with.

Also, it's worth taking apart the air vents once in a while and cleaning them out, as it's amazing how many bug corpses collect inside them. Sick

My wife has a couple of open face shark lids (sk). Seem extremely good quality though the iridium visors scuff easily.

Don't waste your money, I've been very disappointed with my S900 and the service received, been back twice and still leaks water everywhere inside like a free shower in the rain. The rain also coats the internal sun visor and the inside of the visor so you can't see anything. It also leaves water marks so when it's not raining you still have crap all over everything. It's also very noisy.

The only good things are the QR strap, free pinlock and quick release visor - that's it.

The Shark Vision R I had before was much better but it's not a very sporty helmet and the big visor is a little too much in a way - lets sun in etc. Oh and when you changed the visor on the Vision R following Shark's videos to the letter the visor snaps due to the poor design relying on the brittle visor plastic to flex.

I'd get AGV myself or something better. I'm never buying Shark again.

What I'm getting from this thread is that, like tyres, helmets are a very subjective subject!

Several posts praising the S900, and one person very unhappy with it. I guess you'll never really know if a helmet is good for you until you give it a proper try in use. But I also think that like anything else, you'll get a few bad examples off of a production line too.

Noise is often (though admittedly not always) down to poor fit. Not just buying the wrong size, but because perhaps the shape doesn't suit an individual properly. But throw in considerations of riding position, screen shape and size etc, and it's not always just the fault of the helmet in isolation. Trying one on in a shop for a few minutes to make sure it doesn't get uncomfortable in any particular areas really isn't enough unfortunately.

Quite a few people mention it leaking water though... Quite a major thing if they're all prone to it.

I really like the feature of internal sun visor but pointless if it fogs up too!

Yeah, if you're getting a lot of people saying the same thing, obviously there's a problem.

Internal sun visors are very handy, but I wish these manufacturers would give you options of darker tints for them. They all seem to be a bit on the light side for me.
