Does anyone know if you can still get a refund from taxing a vehicle?
I needed the car for a couple of weeks so decided to tax it again but i'm now selling it and i'd like to get back some of the £145 if i can, looking on the website i can only find the old method to get a tax disc refund but it's now archived and of no use.

I'd like to avoid phoning the dvla up if i can Laughing

You get an automatic refund of any whole months remaining when you transfer the V5, I believe. That's certainly how the new scheme was supposed to work anyway.

Surely their website will hold the answers you seek.

You get whole months back.

Hence I got £4.25 back this morning from selling my YBR Laughing

turns out it tells you when you start the 'sorn' process Thumbs Up

As you are making a SORN before this date you may be entitled to a refund of vehicle tax for any remaining full paid months. Once you have made a SORN the refund will be sent automatically to the address on our records.

You are about to make a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) for your vehicle.


i was looking for the answer all over their website when all i had to do was click 'make sorn' Laughing
