"Eh boss, let's get a brew on." etc. etc.

New series with Guy Martin on Channel 4. Starts at 8. Annoyingly I'll be down the pub, so will watch it tomorrow or something on 4OD.

Thumbs Up

Should be worth it alone for the Pike Peak attempt on his Martek GSXR1100 turbo.

Cool, a lot of people find him annoying but I think he's OK. Shows a lot of spirit.

I doubt any record set on a recumbent will stand as they are not allowed in competition.

Bollocks! I forgot to series link this on my TiVo. Done now. I found the first series pretty good, I have a 720p copy of it somewhere. Maybe I should just have the box record anything new with him in it, probably easier...

I dunno, I like Guy Martin, talkative loon that he is. Very passionate about what he does and that's contagious.

It was interesting and entertaining to watch, but I was a little disappointed with the mileage they got in a faired recumbent on a closed road (albeit with dodgy weather).

For comparison, Andy Wilkinson can do 541 miles in 24 hours with traffic on lumpy open roads, on a standard bike (that he apparently also uses to commute to work on).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tix9iF3reSE - skip to 4:20 to see how someone who has really put everything into it looks after 24 hours on a bike. Not quite as jaunty as Guy!

(I managed 354 that day - but it was my first 24 and I was totally unsupported so had to do things like queue in the shops on the route to buy food & drink rather than have them handed up to me and I carried all my warm clothes for the night and spares/tools in a saddlebag. And I'm pretty crap compared to Andy. But that did mean I got to see him several times as he flew past me on the 20-odd mile loops.)

The entire record seems dubious, who is it officially recognised by? They used a recumbent although the previous record was on a conventional bike. They had three wheels not two. The record they were supposed to have taken was not done in 24 hours due to a dose of the craps making it being interrupted and run over two days so was it even a record?

Ive never really got why Andy Wilkinson didn't beome a pro or semi-pro rider? Surely he's wasted just working on a buiulding site?
