Use the trip meter. Does it have a reserve switch on the tank?

Do what every sensible biker does, with or without fuel gauges.!

Fill tank, set trip meter, ride till it runs out (clever bods carry a litre bottle of fuel to top up, daft ones get a long walk), note number on trip meter, subtract at least 25, remember that number, make sure you refuel before the trip counter reaches it again and reset trip every time you fuel up. Simples!

Fill the tank up, ride it and when it dies, switch the tap to RES and find a petrol station. There's no need to know the petrol level in the tank. Thumbs Up

Open fuel cap. Get ciggy lighter, light lighter and use to illuminate tank contents.

For most big bikes as a general rule I tend to fill the tank and re-set trip meter. When trip meter gets to about 100 miles I will get some fuel.
