Hpi/ vin check?

I'm trying to get my old honda xl back on the road , it's a 1987 honda xl600, but I took it off the road years ago and now have lost the reg plate ,

Is there anyone in the trade who could hpi it with just the vin number? So I can find the reg number and apply for a new v5, DVLA are not very helpfull,

If you have a chequebook (I dunno, something from the Early Olden Days) then you've got little to lose by sending off a V62 with a blank reg number and an explanatory note.

You'll need to do that anyway once you figure out the reg number.
