CBT isn't a test, its a training course; and last time I looked at one the DL196 'Certificate of completion' (of the training course) was one sheet of A4 paper....

A DL196 in valid date (2 years from date of issue) 'validates' provisional entitlement on a UK Driving licence for mopeds and motorcycles, subject to age restrictions.

Having completed a CBT course, and obtained a DL196, the holder may ride, unsupervised, and displaying L-Plates; without passengers and not on motorways; if over 16 yrs a moped, up to 50cc and less than 28mph (I think now); or if over 17, a 125cc motorcycle, subject to power and power to weight restrictions.. this is all.

Learner-Riders over 19, may envoke the 'provisional' entitlement to ride A2 category machines on L-Plates, again without passengers, off motorways, B-U-T only if under radio supervision of a DSA approved motorcycle istructor. Likewise riders over the age of 24, may invoke same entitlement to ride a full 'unrestricted' A-Group machine, ONLY if under radio supervision of a instructor.

So, 'access' you get for a valid CBT cert is pretty much the same; on your own, you can ride a moped or learner legal 125; doesn't matter whether you have a car licence HGV licence or a dog licence really, entitlement to other groups don't effect provisional entitlement for a moped/motorcycle.

The only asside to this is a caveat of moped entitlement awarded for passing a CAR driving test... BUT, as of some date around 2001, ONLY if 'validated' with a CBT cert.. (When they realised that they were anding out full licence entitlement for powered two wheelers to folk who may ever have even looked at one, less ridden one!)

CBT cert to validate full moped entitlement awarded for he car test had to have been in force when the car test was passed, or issued after; and in that case it's 2-year period of validity is extended 'indefinitely' (or at least as long as you don't loose the certificate) but ONLY in respect of validating 'full' moped entitlement... does not extend validity period in respect of provisional motorcycle entitlement, nor change any of the other rules imposed by 'normal' provisional motorcycle entitlement.

So, your list from page 4 of a one page document? Out of context hard to tell what it might be referring to...

I cant see why, on a DL196 or some explanatory notes accompany one, there would be such a list; or why any-one with a full licence with Car + Motorcycle groups assuggestedby list item 4, would need or want a CBT cert....

Only thing that sprigs to mind, is IS it NOT to do with CBT, but a form to apply for a DSA Driving Exam?

Here, since they split motorcycle entitlement to three sub-categories, might be to describe licence entitlement already held by an applicant, who applying for a motorbike test, COULD now be an existing full motorcycle licence holder, wishing to upgrade entitlement to a higher category... but I really dont know what you are looking at, so am guessing.

Just means what kind of photocard you had and what you did the CBT on. So pink childrens licence and did CBT on a scooter.... they would tick provisional/moped. If you had a green big boys licence (so car) and did the CBT on a 125 then it would be ticked as full car/motorcycle.

Mike how the fuck did you give people CBT's and not notice those 4 big boxes that you need to tick one of?

Other way around, surely? Pink licence is a full licence and green is a provisional.
