It's been a long time since I've bought road tyres, and the last time was sticky sports tyres. I'm after a tyre that lasts well and can cope with miles after mile of motorway.

Any suggestions?

As above, if it's purely motorway miles and not leisure, get whatever respectable sports touring tyre is going cheap. Don't waste money on the latest and greatest as you're only going to ruin them.

For pure motorways I couldn't think of anything worse than spending £240 on the latest sport touring tyre..

Go with old hard compounds, pilot road 1, conti motions etc,

Agreed with the rest, PR1. Is a good choice, a friend tried a pair for a trip round Europe and got over 7k out of them on a falco, replaced with the same again.

M&P usually have them on offer.

I'm thinking the PR1 seem cheap enough. The trouble is my local tyre place charges far too much to put tyres onto wheels, even to loose wheels.

A quick look on eBay and I can get all the necessary stuff to DIY tyre change for less than £100. I know I could do it for a lot less but I like making jobs as easy as possible.
