I just brought this bike second hand and I've just gone past 600 miles on it. As far as the manual says I need to have its first service done.

My local dealer has quoted £75, does this seem fair? I can't imagine much work at all would need to be done at 600 miles? The bike was originally purchased May 2013.

Thanks

No,

I paid £12 for my first service (On a normal YBR), and that was for oil and a new washer.
You shouldn't have to pay for your first service.

I brought the bike through a private seller, so this is not the same dealer. As I understand it the first service is usually only free from the dealer you purchased the bike from?

1st service is not just a oil change. It is also a check over to ensure that ALL nuts and bolts are tight.....

£75 is about right on less you take it back to the supplying dealer who should do it for the parts cost

I get it done be a dealer not even an independent like me as anything else ad the warrantee could be void

Yes I done 500 / 600 services for owners but if the manufacture gets difficult owner loses

As well as the oil change the 500/600 service is a chance to give the bike a trough check over and make sure nothing is wrong

The first service is probably the most important as far as the bike's service history is concerned. Not having it done by an authorised main dealer, gives the manufacturer the ability to pass the responsibility for future major parts failure onto the owner.

Even if you are not the original owner when the bike reaches the recommended mileage or age, you should still get it done by an approved main dealer or the manufacturer's accredited agent.

£75 is the going rate for pretty much any work on a bike (parts + labour), unless the original owner and dealer came to an arrangement.

Think yourself lucky you didn't buy a 2013 CB500, you'd be looking at £300 upwards at 600 miles.

Whether you reckon it's worth paying £75 is really up to you. As a buyer, I'd prefer a bike that's been credibly serviced by a careful owner. However, there are plenty of folk who for some reason (I can't think what) think that a dealer stamp in the book means more than that a dealer has stamped the book.

As the bike is still within the warranty period, I'd get it serviced by the yamaha dealer.

If the bike was outside of the warranty period, I'd just do it myself
