Is it fuel injected or carbied?

How new is the petrol?

Start by draining all of the petrol out and refilling with fresh. If the bike has stood for as long as you mention, and if it is carbied, then it would be an idea to strip the carb out and check the pilot jet flows ok.A quick clean with some carb cleaner may well help
