Ha anyone else had trouble with their motorbike insurance through Bike Sure.

I had mine done the other day when geting my CBR 600, i then the next day had an e-mail saying i had to call them to discuss a few things.

I'm keeping my bike in a garage that isn't to far from my house, because of this they have increased the policy by an extra £113 on top of the £270 they already charged me.

They said i can cancel but would have to pay £51 for 1 days cover so basically they've held me in a corner where i had no choice but to pay the extra

Thing is on their site all it states is "A Locked Garage"

Any advise how to get round this or out of insurance for free?

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to BCF.

The member that you'll want to speak with is "arry", although I'll take a pop.

Thing is, you've told them an address, and that it will be kept in a locked garage at night. It seems clear that the reasonable interpretation is that the bike is going to be kept in a garage at the address that you gave them.

Since it's not, then of course that changes the risk.

While insurers are indeed contemptible reptiles (hi, arry Wub) in this case I can't see what they've done wrong. I won't mince words: you thought you'd get away with letting them draw the wrong conclusion. You didn't.

However... within 14 days they cannot charge you for "cancellation". They can charge you for the costs of setting up the policy, plus a pro rata for the cover enjoyed, i.e. that extra £1. Their site says that the arrangement fee is £30, not £50 though.

Now, what's the whole story? Did you go via a comparison site, and if so which one, or direct to them? If to them, why didn't you speak to them before agreeing the policy?

Very Happy HAHA thanks for your e-mail, i can honestly say there was no bad behaviour on my part, i put locked garage and didn't for 1 second think i was scamming them because i though a locked garage was a locked garage end of, if they are then going to change the goal posts then they should have "Locked Garage" at your property or somewhere else.

I went through the comparison website which was actually bikesure

I can understand people trying to manipulate the system but i can say i never thought of that

They have taken advantage of the fact their poor website doesn't allow you to put all the details in and then they have held me to ransom for more money

Shocking IMO

What would happen if you tell them you are not going to keep it at a remote locked garage any more, but you are actually keeping it secured at your home address?

Have you asked them what would be an acceptable place to keep the bike that wouldn't incur the additional fee?

Most policies have "Is the bike stored at registered/your address" which clearly yours is not.. Unless you could argue that the garage has the same post code.

You could always raise it as a complaint and refuse to let them resolve it unless they let you out with no cost and let it goes to FOS after 8 weeks....
They might fold given the cost. But they also may let it go if they think they will win.

Not the point. It's worth the question for the same reason that many people don't declare their chains and alarms. If you haven't declared them and you use them anyway, no ombudsman will find that you've contributed to the theft of your bike by securing it over and above the policy requirements.

Ask what the price is if it's stored on the street outside your house, and whether there are any restrictions on how far from your house you can leave it in that situation. For example, because my bike is declared as garaged, I'm not covered if it's nicked from outside my house, because it should be in the garage - that probably doesn't work the other way but ASK anyway. If you're covered for leaving it wherever you like, then you're covered for a higher risk than you're actually exposing the bike to.

I keep mine in the back garden and none of my security devices were on the list.
£110 for a Z750
Best bet in future might be to say its left uncovered and unlocked on the main road and they might knock you £100 off Smile
