Hi Gents (and/or ladies!),

I’m posting to you guys to ask for your help! It’s probably a bit of an unusual request but I’ll try to explain as concisely as I can.

I’m a student in my final year of studying for a Photography Bachelor’s Degree in Hertfordshire. During our final year we are required to produce a self-directed piece of work which will be assessed as part of a public exhibition at the end of the academic year.

The concept for my project is where you guys come in. I’m aiming to produce a series based on individuals who are actively involved in the mechanical side of motorcycling – that is, if you build custom projects, if you restore classics (or even restore newer bikes), if you build ‘race’ bikes (whether it’s classics or modern supersport/superbike styles) or you run any kind of heavy modification or fabrication – I’d like you to be a part of my project.

The series itself would involve me coming to you/your ‘workspace’, with an aim of 3 images output from the shoot. This will include;
• A shot of yourself in your workspace – nothing too posed, just a natural fairly natural shot
• A closer-crop shot of part of your workspace – obviously something that will vary depending on your space
• A shot of either a current ‘project’ or a previous project that you might be particularly proud of.

I also aim to record the shoot with video/audio and hopefully get some details of how each individual got into biking/building/fabrication etc. which will be edited together in a documentary-style video at the end of the project. Once the project is complete I’ll happily provide you with a digital copy of the images and/or I’ll be happy to arrange prints.

I am based in Bedfordshire and my Uni is in Hertfordshire so the closer you are the better, however I am expecting to travel so don’t be put off getting in touch if you think you can help. (As a side-note, there’s a chance I’m going to be in Europe for 1-2 weeks in mid-late March so if you’re across the channel and interested let me know too and we might be able to arrange something).

If you’d like to take part or if you have any questions at all don’t hesitate to fire away, I’ll be monitoring responses below or you can shoot me an e-mail over at DaleJohnsPhotography@gmail.com. Also if you yourself don’t fit the project but you know someone who does I’d really appreciate anyone passing on a link to this post, my e-mail address or even drop me an e-mail with their details so I can get in touch.

Thanks in advance!

Dale

(N.B. I’ll be cross-posting this to a number of similar forums/boards so apologies if any of you are members of multiple sites and end up seeing this more than once – although if anyone can suggest suitable sites to post to that would be appreciated too!)

I like the sound of this Thumbs Up

While I do a lot of fiddling in my shed, I don't really have anything worthy of your project. I would however like to see what you come up with if you will be updating a blog or similar.

Best of luck.

Mouses shed and Nates yard. and Kitchen have to be seen to be believed.

On a side note. Nice to see someone who just wants help with an assignment rather than wants someone else to do it for them for a change.

Get Mudcow to send you some detailed pics of the epic petrol mower project/resto.

Failing that there's a lot of good stuff happening on here at the moment in workshops. You have:

Binge's Killer 30bhp+ pit bike

Iain's Race tuned Chinese ped (soon to be a big block build)

Steveh's new Triton project and a fucking awesome old school workshop that would make for brilliant pics!
