Howdy all.
Im thinking of getting my first stands as I want to do more to my bike myself. I found this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301361936827?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

on ebay and was thinking it is a good deal. But then again I don't know much about such matters.

If anyone has any thoughts on whats hot or not, it would be much appreciated!

Expect them to flex quite a lot.

Not too bad if you weld up the joins.

I went with an Abba Stand due to fear of definitely dropping bike off a paddock stand mid-lift.

Loads of people can use paddock stands on their own, I just wouldn't trust myself.

+1 for Abba stands. They're much more stable and far stronger than a paddock stand. By using a jack or similar under the header pipes you can have the front or even both wheels off the ground at the same time. With a paddock stand and practice, it's possible to lift the bike onto it and let it back down again single handed but it's a precarious affair at best and one slip can spell disaster. With an Abba stand, single handed operation is a doddle and pretty much idiot proof. Thumbs Up

I had a Motrax stand. Plenty solid enough and with a handy extending arm that could be pushed out of the way when not needed.

I don't get this whole dropping a bike getting it onto a paddock stand/needs 2 people/ imminent disaster awaits attitude. It's very simple:
Put a block of wood under the sidestand to bring the bike near upright
Locate the stand under the swingarm
Raise the stand with one hand and keep the other on the tail/seat for stability
As the stand raises the bike it will come upright and sit on the rubber mounts , as long as you keep pressure on the stand it is stable and up it goes.

Never had a problem, and never had to use another person to get it on a stand...

An ABBA stand is one of the best bike related tools I have bought.

Spend the extra and buy one, it's worth it.

I have some similar to the ones OP originally posted, so far haven't had any problems with them.

Perfect for what I need them for, oil changes / cleaning etc. They feel solid enough, no worries of the bike going over!

Thumbs Up

I bought a dirt cheap set like the one OP linked too, plenty solid enough for occasional use. Can't fault them for the price.

That's the method I use for bikes that the Abba won't fit. I've never had a problem either but they always feel as if disaster is a step away. Then there's the stability of the stand when you're giving something a bit of welly.

The Abba stand on the other hand...

Each to their own though Thumbs Up

I got the cheap stand too, it does the job.
No problem with it, it's better to be 2 people to do it but I can manage it alone too like said before.
The only complain I have is the springy rubbery parts that are a pain to but properly under the swingarm, when I put one side under, the other fucks off etc...

I find paddock stands easy to use.

I put bike on side stand then get the paddock stand under the swing arm. I get the rubber hooks of the stand on the swing arm and then rotate the bike and stand together to an upright position. Then just lever the bike up with the stands lever arm.
