Washing machine has had a hissy fit. It won't go past the rinse cycle.

I'm presuming something electronic as everything works OK if operated stage by stage. It's a Hotpoint and must be 8+ years old. Worth getting someone out to look at it or is it just better to replace at that age?

If so, recommendations? And no, I'm not buying a Miele. Laughing

WARNING: NON-PC STUFF FOLLOWS:

Buy tin tub with length of chain.
Chain wife to tub.
Throw in laundry and add hot water and soap powder.
Give wife a stick to stir it with (stick must not be too long or heavy, or chain must be short).
Instructions: tell wife to earn her keep.

If it's not going to the spin cycle , it could be the brushes in the motor.
You should be able to pick up a pair at a reasonable price.
Quite a common problem ,especially when Hotpoint went through a period of fitting very soft brushes.

Yes we called those mangles but the tub mentioned earlier with a wooden type of stirrer basher is called a poss tub.

Same, I've had mine for almost 10 years and I've only replaced the heating element which is a piss easy job.

Normally stopping on a rinse cycle is a blocked pump. Machine has to get rid of water before spin cycle Wink

Yes that. First point to check is the filter, usually accessible on the front at the bottom. Make sure you have something to catch the water that's likely to pour out as you unscrew it though. Laughing

Maybe this whinge belongs under 'humour', I dunno. But I've recently acquired a dash cam for the car. Its mount needs to be stuck to the windscreen: the instructions state:
"Before you can install the adhesive mount onto your windshield, the ambient temperature must be from 21° to 38°C"

I mean, really?! How many months do they suppose I'm going to have to wait until the ambient temperature exceeds 21 degrees?! Laughing

(I do get that this problem is not exactly insurmountable and that there are ways round it for those of us without a centrally heated garage, but it's a bit odd that a major manufacturer (Garmin) would put out an instruction manual worded in this way!)

It's possibly just one of those legal things, i.e. it will work reasonably well if the temperature is outside those limits, but it's so you can't sue them if it falls off and kills you or something.

People who respond to any tragic event by saying, "There are no words....." then spout on and on about how awful it all is.

So clearly, there ARE words and you're fecking wasting them, bore off!

Ahnd.......relax

A big ginger cat keeps coming in my cat flap when it thinks I'm not here and making itself at home.

My lot must just sit and look at it and say "Yeh, come on in, its a soft touch here".

But in the last week the fucker has started spraying and every night when I come home the whole fucking flat stinks of cat piss. Its costing me a fortune in incense and room freshener.

I'm going to have to return to shutting them all out of my bedroom while I am at work, cos I don't want to stink up my boudoir.

Might have to buy one of those water squirty cannons and have a go at him out in the garden. Mad
