2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice works perfectly. You shouldn't ever have to drain rice or wash it once it's cooked. The key to perfect rice is to remove it from the heat once the water is absorbed and then leave it to steam for at least 10 minutes before you fluff it up with a fork and serve.

I like spicing basmati up a bit by grinding some green cardamoms (leave the pods in), a few cloves and some cinnamon quill up in a pestle and mortar and then tempering it in hot ghee then adding the rice and stirring it through the spice and ghee before adding the water. 'Tis delicious.

Yep, variations on a standard theme for me (worked for years);

1 part (by volume) rice to 2 parts water
Wash rice gently but thoroughly by gently agitating in water, 3 changes of water is enough normally (careful not to break the grains)
Rice in a sieve while I prepare the flavourings, usually oil/ghee, cumin seed, torn dried red chillies etc., then onions/garlic and fry until golden, rice and water in with some salt, lid off cook on medium heat for about 7 minutes (stir once or twice gently), then lid on (with foil to seal if the fit is poor) and lowest possible temperature the hob will go for a further 7 minutes, heat off and leave with the lid on still for another 5, fluff up and done.

Last night's rice; lemon and cashew nut. Black mustard seeds and cashews fried in oil until crackling, finely sliced red onion added and fried until golden, then finely cut zest (use a potato peeler than chop up the shards) added for a few seconds, then rice and water (with some of the liquid content being the lemon juice squeezed from the lemons used). Love this rice recipe with hot curries (Indian or Thai) as the freshness of the lemon is a nice contrast. Thumbs Up

Try adding keffir lime leaf too. Especially for thai.

Another thing I'll do if i want a very "fresh" tasting curry is keep back some of the onion, very finely chopped, and mix it in raw just before serving sometimes along with finely chopped corriander stalks.

Similar concept; channa bhatura is one of my favourite meals and served usually with a side of raw red onion and lemon wedges. There's something fantastic about the buttery puri, rich chickpeas, zesty lemon and fresh onion combination. I can eat that stuff all night long. Wub

Rice: 1 volume of rice to 2 volumes of water. Heat it fast 'till it's boiling, then have it on a very low heat, with the lid on, until the water has gone. That's it. I cannot see why anyone would want to "fluff it up", but if you like I suppose you can. Then you will need a spoon or something to eat it, though.

In fairness, if you go on the manufacturers parts list for a Japanese motorbike, they are listed as fenders.

Unexpectedly unpleasant and uncomfortable ride home from the sarf west, pull up at St Margarets roundabout on A316, wondering if sudden provocatively strong fishy smell is me.

White van creeps forward at the lights, I shuffle away from him and decide I can afford to suspect fishy smell is coming from him, not me.

Fishy smell disappears as I leave the white van man in my noisy wake. Feel better about personal hygiene.

Pull up at Isleworth Roundabout, fishy smell back again.
Van nowhere in sight Shocked

Remind self that for several years in late 1980s, blamed small child for unpleasant smells in same stretch of road but which in fact are normally due to large water treatment plant nearby rather than toxic contents of nappies (or indeed lack of diligence in maternal freshness)

YouTubers starting every video with "Hey guys..." - it's like they're all Harvester restaurant staff.
Just get straight into it or just say "Hello"

Don't forget to hit thumbs up and subscribe!

Yes. We all know how f'king YouTube works. just STFU about subscribing, if you're any good I will, if you're not, I won't - you saying the above phrase has no bearing on this.

Apparently not as you forgot to tell viewers to share the video and you forgot to tell them how important it for them to turn notifications on. Shocked

But most shocking of all is how you didn't tell anyone that the new merch is available to buy and the link for that is in the description.

Now that is how YouTube works. Razz

One-man brake bleeding kits.

Owing to the fact the bleed nipple doesn't have a good seal in the caliper once opened, air will always sneak in. This means you still have to nip the nipple shut before releasing the brakes, therefore requiring 2 people. I discovered the flaw with these kits almost 2 decades ago. However, I have run out of suitable tubing that fits on the bleed nipple and as I was in the car parts shop, I've had to buy a kit that I know is telling me lies.

There's a sliding plastic clamp that goes over the tube when you push it over the nipple it should hold but sometimes it gets dislodged if your spanner is a bit on the chubby side.

I'm struggling to visualise this brake bleeding issue.

Attach tube with valve thingy to nipple, put other end in some sort of receptacle. Use 1 arm to operate spanner on nipple, use other arm to reach up to brake lever and operate.

Not sure how that's not doable unless person doing has either thalidomide arms (in which case good luck riding the bike) or the front end is raked out 6'+ from the bars.

Its not really doable with a car, though.

Rear brakes on a vauxhall zafira. It's actually a 3 man job as someone has to watch the reservoir level too.

Yeah, I know that'd work but I don't trust the kit anyway. Had one get a blockage in the nr valve, which meant it blew off at high-speed once pressure had built up and showered everything in brake fluid.

Really I should spend the 50quid at screwfix and get the 2l pressurised brake bleeder that connects to the reservoir itself.
