I've never been one to follow fashions. I just consider what I think I need, then see what is out there that addresses those needs. Sometimes it's something cheap, sometimes it means splurging more cash than you want to.
Even if I buy something purely because I like it, I don't really care who makes it. If there's a cheaper but still effective version that fits my requirements, I'll go for that.
Paying for brand names has always been anathema to me. It's just that sometimes those brand names get it more right than the less well known ones. That period where it was fashionable to have labels worn on the outside of clothing seemed ridiculous to me. I still prefer companies to keep their labels discreet if we must see them at all. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Yes, I had the jacket too. |
I had a black leather bike jacket because I rode bikes. But I also had a Belstaff wax cotton jacket that was a hand-me-down from my old man
I used to wear it over the leather when I had to do a long trip in pissing rain and cold. Still not quite sure why I bothered, as by that point it had seen the last of its waterproof days
Actually, my leather jackets were often hand-me-downs from my brother, who also rode bikes.
There was no one else (except my physics teacher ) in my school who was into bikes, and there were maybe two other people in my school who liked heavy rock. Didn't care. Still don't.
It might be telling that I have only two "slogan" t-shirts at the moment. One is a Fender one (I like Strats and Teles), and the other a Rory Gallagher one - and he was never the "in thing" really - always did his own thing too, and never mind what people thought. The Rory t-shirt got me into a number of conversations with people who also like his music - on the Lakeland fells of all places ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I spend the absolute minimum on living and clothing, similar with bike gear, just getting what actually fits etc. I've spend £20 on a helmet before because it was comfy as hell, I also have spent a whopping £60 on trainers because they were the nicest I could find (and I was in America and shoes had just given up after 3 years of service ) |
You might well, but plenty don't. A great many people, I'd argue more than 50% live WAY above their means and
have a sucky paycheck to paycheck life because of it. Leased cars, £1000 phone on the hip and two skint weeks every
single month. I was guilty of it back too in my "catalogue" days. I never had the dough to hand for £120 reebok pumps
and more pairs of Levi 501's than I can count, so the catalogue was the only way for me back then. I don't do credit anymore.

Ah you see, at the time so did I and was considered the most entitled within my little mob of about 6 of us to wear
the leather jacket that made up part of our "uniform". We all got guitars about the same time too. These guys were
our heroes and as teenage lads just like every kid that ever bought a football shirt, we wanted to be like them. Virtually
every t shirt I own has something printed on the front. I've been advertising other peoples shit since 1989. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Yeah, I've always tried to live within my means. If I got a loan to buy a bike, I made sure I could pay it off quickly. Instead of looking to have expensive things, I think you should adjust your life to stay within those means. Never had a credit card in my life.
Now is an exception, because if I didn't use the bank's money, I'd starve to death ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

A new gear grinder but hot on the heels of my recent comment below...
Tried to use my old iPad for a family Skype session with my adult kids who are mostly scattered around the country - we do this reasonably often; it's a nice way to keep in touch. But the Skype app told me it was out of date and needed updating before I could connect. So I visited the app store, only to find out that I'm already running the most up to date version available for my device. So, no more Skype. This is hot on the heels of exactly the same thing happening with my Royal Bank of Scotland banking app a few weeks ago; similarly about a year ago Skype stopped working on my smart TV (which I'd equipped with an expensive and now useless dedicated webcam thingy).
Does my farking head in, this built-in obsolescence. I have expensive bits of kit which work just as well now as they did when I bought them but they are effectively junk simply because the manufacturers and developers have decreed it

As said earlier by me , my sat-nav broke.
So I go shopping for a new one because I prefer to have a separate sat-nav.
Not that many in the shops nowadays .
The ones that are about are fugging expensive
The cheapest I could find over the counter was £99.95.
Ended up buying a mount for my phone.
Looks like my phone is my sat-nav now?
Come back Maplins , all is forgiven.
Bought my last sat-nav there for not a lot of pennies. ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

Lazy crows that live near my house were tapping at the window asking to get fed this morning.
Woke up the cat (dozing on the window sill) and the furry fucker nearly shat a brick! Back end went out as he skidded round the living room door and nearly took the cat flap off the hinges ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
