Talking of fingers. Grinding my gears today is the belief that my dog may have broken my left thumb. The incident was
at the start of last week, the dog was out running in the woods and a cyclist was coming toward us, she gets a bit excited
by pushbikes and has been known to chase them. She was actually behind me having a sniff when the cyclist appeared
and immediately set off of an intercept course. As she ran by me I tried to grab her collar to allow the cyclist clear passage
and I heard a snapping sound and felt extreme pain. Felt like my thumb bent right back. I was afraid to look at it as I imagined
it would be a thumbnail touching wrist type of thing. That's what you get trying to stop a six stone running dog with one finger.
Thumb bruised and swelled up by next day and a week later the difference in size is still noticeable and it still hurts if I
put any stress on it. Looks like I'm off to minor injuries clinic next week for an xray. Must have slept on it funny because its
giving me gyp today.

So what is life like with only one opposable thumb? Laughing
Can you still pick things up with the broken one?

Still moves, the second joint down from the thumb tip is the one that got bent right back. But if I bump it against something
it hurts like bejeezus. Could possibly be a sprain but I'd have thought after a week it wouldn't still be as sore and swollen
as it is. I usually heal pretty quickly. What with it being my left hand it's not hugely inconvenient although that is my
lead hand when I walk the dog. It's quite normal to still be able to move a broken thumb apparently so I'll go and get
it checked out, don't want another sudden lunge to make it 10 times worse when I have bozo on the lead. It's squirrel season.

Yeah, I always find it's best to wait a couple of weeks after an injury like that before getting it sorted, just to be sure! Rolling Eyes Very Happy

FB / Instagram adverts

Mine are full of gambling and casino adverts...

As someone with addictive tendencies who has self excluded from most sites in the past I cant even find a way to get rid of them. even clicking block or reporting doesnt flag up them all and i cant filter out the gambling adverts...

I know companies must sell advertising in order to make profit but surely they should let me filter out the ones which are gonna cause me problems..

Not blaming them for this weekends huge losses but they definitely dont help. First time I have played roulette in years and I am sure that having subliminal or not so subliminal adverts constantly in my face has had some impact on my choices. What started off as £10 for fun ended in much worse. Going to have to be a hermit this month.

Oh well lesson learned for another few years at least....

We old uns are made of sterner stuff. I have only had one break in my life which was my ankle. Broke it on a Friday night,
at a mates house after a beer and spliff too many. Drove home on the Saturday afternoon after a 2hour battle to get sock
and shoe back on it. Pressing brake pedal in car hurt like fuck so dropped my mate off first then drove home mainly
using handbrake gently to reduce speed.

Hobbled in to our second floor flat after climbing 4 flights of stairs, mrs grr said "what TF have you done to your ankle?!?"

"Just a sprain" I said "Just need to rest it"

Sunday morning, foots gone a bit black with bruising but I continue to insist it's just a sprain.

"Would I be able to do this if it was broken?" and start hopping round our kitchen on the broken ankle. Laughing

Decide Sunday not a good day to go to A&E because of footballists injuring themselves and don't fancy the wait.

Monday - Get on bus to Whipps Cross hospital where I am informed that it is indeed broken, and that it's borderline
whether or not it needs pinning and plating. Spent next three and a half months on crutches and in plaster to knee.
Told under no circumstances to put any weight on it at all until the plaster comes off.
Biggest pain was that I was self employed van courier at the time and couldn't work, so no money.

Upside- I can tell when it's going to rain now. Thumbs Up Was going to go to minor injuries place today but CBA.
the unemployed and professional claimants will be mobilised by now and it just winds me up sitting there with
them in a waiting room. I'll go tomorrow. Probably. Or book a private appointment for the end of the week.
It's only really a problem when I walk the dog as I normally hold the lead in my left hand. Luckily I have a spare.

use a plug in based blocker like ublock or adblocker, or better yet look up dns based filtering like pi-hole that will cover your entire network.

If you go to https://www.facebook.com/ads/preferences/?entry_product=ad_settings_screen and tweak your settings accordingly, that will "allegedly" stop you from being shown targeted adverts based on your interests (ie, via cookies from gambling sites)

Actually, this has reminded me of a similar gear grinder a few years ago courtesy of my labrador, Lucy.

The missus and I were in the Lake District for a weekend break, and did a long walk over the hills to Windermere for a pub lunch, after which we walked back by a similar route. Lucy had been on the lead nearly all the way cos sheeps, but on the return journey we let her off while passing through what we now knew to be a completely walled-in, sheep-free, forested area.

But guess what - one bloody sheep had managed to get through/over the wall and Lucy clocked it first. Wahey! Off she went. Shitshitshit.... She chased this thing up the track we were walking on; she'd never have hurt it had she caught it, it was just another labrador to play with as far as she concerned; but no excuses. Anyway, sheepy ends up tearing back down the track at a rate of knots towards us, with Lucy in hot pursuit, completely ignoring our screaming. I knew I had to stop her somehow, so just as Larry the lamb hammered past me I stepped sideways into her path to try and grab her, running at full tilt. Bam. She and I sailed up into the air and I landed flat on my back on the stony track, completely winded; the missus got the lead on the dog before she had time to recover her wits. I must have cracked a rib or two, as I was bloody sore for a couple of months.

Dogs.

Its been bugging me for a while and I just thought i could vent here and maybe get a sympathetic ear.

So lifts.. up, down, get in, get out, what could be simpler? Well to many, I am sure you have no problems at all. I am living in China right now, and stay in hotels, the lifts can be quite busy sometimes, but the hotel I am living in right now is not busy. I stay on the 5th floor and breakfast is on the 2nd. Now this has happened to me several times over the last couple of weeks and its just about peeing me off. I get in the lift, select 2nd floor door shuts and I'm going down. The door opens on the 2nd floor, and this Chinese guy barges his way in before I get the chance to get out. (its only a small lift and i have to step right back) the doors then start to close, so I have to quickly stick my arm in the door opening as they are closing, to open the doors again. For me, this man has no manners and in my book, the correct etiquette for lifts says 'let the people out first before getting in'.
So now, my daily lift routine sees me select the floor and stand with my nose to the door as i go down to breakfast in the morning. If this tw-t wants to push in again, I am going push him back. He doesn't even say good morning or ni-hau. Some people are so rude. Maybe I should arm myself with sharpened chop-sticks.

Anyone else have opinions on lift etiquette?

Sid,

Hmm... now that is a point well worth pondering..great suggestion

mpd,

You are spot on. Another dirty habit they have, specially Chinese, Chinese people, is hocking up a huge lugie, and gobbing it out. It can be anywhere, the street, out the car, in a shop, almost everywhere. Mostly men, but the women are not ashamed to do it too. Sick

You answered your own question there. Cookies tell the advertisers that you gamble online. If you don't want targeting with gambling adverts, stop gambling online.

It's a lot worse than client side cookies. They have a whole infrastructure to create a shadow profile of you. Wherever you see fb like buttons, or any of their scripts running they know where you've been on the web.

This is regardless if you ever held an account or not.

They also rape your contacts book if you install the app on a mopho.
This means they have my number, probably my name and photo too.

They don't give a fuck if you're addicted to gambling, they just want the ad revenue. Targeted ads are worth more than generic.

Its so underhand.. Its why i got out of the business years ago... Corporate want you to pray on the most vulnerable...

I hadnt even played or downloaded any slots/casinos on my phone, the closest would be to look up odds for boxing matches for my friends... I dont use my home computer for anything other than netflix..

You know how it is though... after months of seeing these adverts (and trying to hide as many as i could) I thought fuck it lets have a cheeky dabble.... you know the rest...

Personally I think all gambling advertisment should be illegal, similar to smoking.... and thats way before i lost any money (which I know is more my fault than theirs)

Could be worse I guess, could have lost a LOT more. Silver lining and all that.

no offense but youre the kind of guy that would force a person in a wheelchair to walk up stairs because a ramp would be cheating..

go watch derren brown and subliminal advertising...

also look at both my posts... where did i say it was all their fault and none of my own? I know the blame is mostly on me, that still doesnt change the fact of what they are doing....

Dark horse and rider suddenly appearing amongst the traffic congestion in town at 6:30 on a dark, drizzly evening kind of coalesced the, "What is wrong with people?" vibe of the day.

My gears are being ground by complete and utter fecking boredom.
I’m on standby for work, so I can’t really go anywhere or start some activity/project.
The weathers starting to close in and I’ve been fecking nowhere on my bike this year Mad

Lack of money means outings/trips are not happening.
So much for the grand plan I had at the beginning of the year Middle Finger

The sum total of my excitement this year has been a local bike show, “oh whoope do!”

Bored bored bored bored fugging bored!
