Hi, I have read similar threads on here regarding the ticking noise on a R 1200 GS LC 2013 but those threads and queries don't 100% match my issue,

Which is the ticking noise only comes apparent when the engine is warm.

To fix this ticking noise I have had the following done at a BMW Garage and still no joy

2 full cam shaft & decompression lever in the right cylinder changes
The decompression mechanism changed
Separately new cam shaft gears changed
and most recently now a new cylinder head!

Can anyone else shed any light on it for me? I have uploaded the noise in a video to you tube (click here) https://youtu.be/W6WFD_GLWiw - YouTube

Can you let me know if you have similar issues and How you resolved the noise (if you did)? I have been without my bike now for over a month and BMW are no closer to fixing it!!

Thanks in advance all!

Sorry, chap, no idea.

When you say you've had all that done, do you mean that they've done it then tried to palm the bike off on you as "fixed", or that they say that they've done all that but that they need to hang on to it to try more fiddling?

Either way, at this point I might be thinking about taking it to an independent bike garage (if you can find a decent one) and getting a 2nd opinion on it.

I know SFA about the GS but it sounds 'exhausty' to me
Checked the headers, studs, seals, balance pipe etc?
Is it the flap valve model? I know they can stick and some do a bypass
mod as its only there cos BMW don't want folk to frighten kittens.

An owners forum is probably the best place to ask.

An older version of this that a friend had ended up with having to rebuild the whole right pot just out of warranty.

BMW would only pay half.

They aren't built like their cars anymore.

Other than that I can be no help other than to say if you don't have any joy at that dealership, take it to another.
