suzuki gp100 won't start

So I've been battling this for a bit anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong or what to try??

The bike was idling ok but can't get it to go anymore.
There is a good spark I'm fairly sure it's not electrical as I've done the tests in the manual and all seemed well.

If I poor some juice in the pot it does run in fact I got it to idle for a bit but it backfired and died if it turns over like this does that mean the compression is ok I don't have the means to check the compression properly but if I put my finger over the plug hole and kick it it fires my finger off lol.

Am I right in thinking the carb is the culprit I'm not 100% on how the carb works but I'm thinking of buying a rebuild kit and maybe soaking the body in some sort of cleaning substance.

The plug is always wet if I take it out clean it put it back in will try to fire but then gets wet and won't work properly. If I clean it I get a nice blue spark when earthed on the side of the head..

Am I missing anything?
What good for soaking the body in?
If the plug is wet is that due to over fuelling/oiling?
