Thanks but why? and which ones do you have?

I'm off to NEC next week and will be getting some then, either Ultimate or Auritech.

I have a filter in mine, soft multi coloured ones. The fit really nicely and can be worn all day. Many time I forget that they are in.
The filter is great for working with my Autocom system. I didn't go down the speakers in the plug route as speakers die.
I have had had this set for about 6-7 years now and they are as good as the day I first got them. The first pair I got were good to just that the dog at one of them, but the other plug that is left is still good, just didn't get a filter fitted first time round.

I just wash mine every so often in mild soapy water, rinse and let them dry out.

I tried both and several other kinds of ear plugs that look similar (stem, with rubber flaps at the other end). I don't get them. They don't seem to work anywhere near as well as (much cheaper) foam ones and hurt my ears when taking them out.

Why don't you want to hear about foam ones?

My wife can't use either because her ears are too small. I'm hoping to get her fitted for custom ones at the bike show next weekend.

Used them for years DJing and Drumming and prefer the custom ones. I'm using the no noise ones now:

I used the auritech (or whatever they are called) with the filter in. I found that they were totally useless honestly. They got rid of the whistling but every other noise was there, loud as buggery. Wouldn't waste your money.

I use the Howard leight ones and they are perfect

I use the bright orange ones with the little black thing inside and they do a pretty good job.

I got a set of Ultimate ones from the dirt bike show and I love them to bits, I got the ones with headphones in and they fit so snugly and comfortably. I had the moulds taken on Friday and received the plugs a week and a half later after being told it was anywhere between two weeks and a month.

I have piercings that interfere with other ear plugs and headphones so these ones were made around a tragus in my left ear and a daith in my right.

Service was great, fast turnaround, the helpful salesguy explained everything to me beforehand and they have a bunch of options for you to choose from. They are expensive but I feel that I am getting value for money even if I just use them as plugs and not headphones. I would recommend them Thumbs Up

The cheap foam ones have a 30db reduction. 20db is rubbish

I wouldn't say it's rubbish - it's still 100x less sound energy than you would be exposed to wearing nothing.

I use some "EarPeace" musician's plugs, they use the triple flange design and are flesh-coloured silicone so both discreet* and comfortable. Highly recommended.

*Obviously not useful on a bike but if you go to concerts then it's nice.

These are the best that I have found. I use them for sleeping as I live near heathrow and have a sleep talking GF. They are good on the bike as well as they are comfortable enough to have in all day.

I feel for you fella, we used to live in colnbrook, it often felt like the fucking planes were landing in the living room.

When we first moved to camberley found the silence a bit unnatural, but soon got used to the peace and quiet

But equally, something is hardly 'Ultimate' if it is 10 times less effective than something which costs less than 20p

There those who say cheapest is best and that is fine, but moulded ear plugs are comfy. They are easy to clean (yes cheap ones cam be replaces) but these are moulded for YOUR ears and there is something special about that.

It is a bit like arguing that a Chinese 500cc moped is just as good as a BMW GS, just because it is cheaper and you can replace them easily. In theory that is correct, but in practice and in self worth the BMW is better.

But if you measure earplugs on their ability to block sound, which is their primary function, then the foam ones, which reduce sound by 30dB, are significantly better than the moulded ones which only block 20dB

It's like saying a Chinese 500cc moped is just as good as a BMW GS if the moped goes faster, carries more stuff, costs 1/50th of the price and can travel on more roads.
